Alexa PenaVega is one of those rare Hollywood celebrities who is not afraid to defend unborn babies against abortion.

In an interview Wednesday on the podcast “Speak Out,” PenaVega, who is known for playing Carmen Cortez in the “Spy Kids” series, said she is “hardcore pro-life.”

“Once life begins, that is a whole baby, that is a beautiful life,” PenaVega told host Christine Yeargin. “And for me, I will do whatever it takes to protect that.”

One of the biggest misconceptions about pro-lifers is that they are just “pro-birth,” when actually they are pro-life for the whole life, she said, pointing out how the movement supports mothers in need by offering them love, guidance and financial and material support.

Last year, PenaVega said she had the opportunity to do that herself when someone  through social media connected her with a young woman who was considering an abortion.

“For about an hour and a half, we all spoke, and I just told her about the joy that I have with my kids, and the greatest thing I ever felt was being able to tuck them in at night and be able to see their beautiful little sleeping faces,” she said.

Afterward, PenaVega said the young woman chose life and she recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl.

The 34-year-old actress and her husband, actor/singer Carlos Pena Jr. (“Big Time Rush,” “The Loud House”) also are well known for speaking out about their Christian faith. They have three young children.

She said it’s just common sense that a baby is a baby from the moment his or her life begins, but too many people fail to see that.

“It breaks my heart that people have been really manipulated into thinking that human life is just so disposable,” she said. “And they can’t even look at a baby as something that is a human, that is alive. They keep using a clump of cells, a clump of cells. Well, we’re a clump of cells then.”

She added: “Why am I hardcore pro-life? Because I believe that you’re killing a life. I really do.”

Though being pro-life in Hollywood is rare, PenaVega is not the only celebrity who speaks out against abortion. Emmy Award winning actress Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond,” “The Middle”) also is a strong pro-life advocate.

Recently, former Pussycat Dolls lead singer Kaya Jones also opened up about becoming pro-life after having had three abortions, sharing about the forgiveness that she found in God after suffering a “train of trauma.”

Others include Kelsey Grammer (“Cheers,” “Frasier”), Stacey Dash (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Single Ladies”), Ben Stein (“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”) and model Kathy Ireland.
