Thousands of pro-life advocates crowded the streets of the Costa Rican capital Saturday to defend the right to life of unborn babies.
Many in the crowd wore baby blue scarves and carried blue banners during the peaceful human rights rally in San José.
According to the Catholic News Agency, unborn babies’ rights are being threatened in the Central American country after the government drafted a regulation allowing “therapeutic” abortions. It is not clear how extensively it would allow unborn babies to be aborted in the country.
The pro-life groups Wake Up Costa Rica, Democracy in Action and the Autonomous University of Central America organized the pro-life rally to urge President Carlos Alvarado not to sign away unborn babies’ rights, the report states.
Here’s more from the report:
Democracy in Action posted on social media that the activity “ended in success” and that “it brought together thousands of people who marched peacefully.” They also said that for 2020 there will be “a lot more.”
“The pro-life people of Costa Rica took to the streets to demonstrate that we’re against abortion on demand, and we’re not going to remain silent in face of the pretensions of abortion advocates, that we’re going to defend life from conception and do so because we are indeed a people of pure life,” Democracy in Action added.
Costa Rica protects unborn babies and mothers from abortion. But many countries across the world are under intense international pressure to legalize the killing of the unborn. The pro-life march in Costa Rica demonstrates that its citizens want every baby’s life to be protected, born and unborn.
