Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Millions of Americans yesterday were exposed to the pro-woman, pro-life message on abortion in cities and towns across the country as a result of the 2010 LifeChain. The event has people holding signs such as "Abortion Kills Children" or "Abortion Hurts Women" along busy street corners.

With more than 1,450 LifeChain events taking place across the United States and some in Canada and other nations, tens of millions of people ultimately saw pro-life signs.

In Omaha, Nebraska alone, more than 3,500 people lined both sides of key streets organizer Carolyn LaGreca told the World-Herald newspaper. Like those who joined the event in other states, she said participants received responses ranging from thumbs up and supportive honking to shouts, insults and the occasional obscene gesture.

Participants, who included adults and children, also held signs that read “Adoption — The Loving Option" and “Jesus Forgives & Heals.”

Steve Brody, executive director of Dubuque County Right to Life, told the Dubuque newspaper hundreds of people gathered along U.S. 20 with their signs.

"This is wonderful," he said, pointing out the mix of races, denominations and ages participating.
"It’s so good to see young people involved," add Kay Hughes, of Cascade, Iowa. "It gives you courage and energizes you to keep on with the fight."

Some 150 people took part in the LifeChain in Zanesville, Florida, and Mary Lou and Deacon Gene Staker have attended every one in the 9 years they have taken place there.

"Even though abortion is legal, I don’t consider it a moral act," Mary Lou said, according to the local paper. "We come to pray that our United States could have respect for life again. Adoption is always an option but killing your baby should not be an option."

Madison Landkrohn, a high school student, also attended.

"I think there’s more options than abortion. I believe abortion is wrong. I’d like it to become illegal. There’s always other options. You can put it (the baby) up for adoption or keep it," she said.

"It’s God’s choice for life. The choice comes when you have sex," she added.

"I’m showing my belief and trying to put an end to abortion," Landkrohn’s classmate Anna Boggs said as she stood along the street. "Its (abortion) like killing somebody. It’s like murder only to a child. I think people realize abortion is wrong and that there’s always an option."

More than 150 people also took to the streets in Panama City, Florida and organizers said this year’s event was the biggest turnout they’ve had in years.

Looking at a sample of other cities: another 100 people gathered in Holland, Michigan; some 130 people participate in Temple, Texas; more than 600 people in Hastings, Nebraska participated; 200 joined in Gainesville, Florida; more than 100 joined in Port Lavaca, Texas; 150 lined the streets in North Syracuse, New York; and more than 200 were there in Naples, Florida.
