A Vatican official is condemning President Donald Trump and his administration for defunding USAID, but some of the funding promoted abortion and Trump officials have already confirmed legitimate funding will be retained.
As Catholic Vote notes in an article:
The Vatican’s global aid network’s secretary general is warning that the Trump administration’s funding cuts from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) “will kill millions of people and condemn hundreds of millions more to lives of dehumanising poverty,” according to a Feb. 10 press release from Caritas Internationalis.
“This is an inhumane affront to people’s God-given human dignity, that will cause immense suffering,” Caritas Internationalis’ Secretary General Alistair Dutton said. “Killing USAID also presents massive challenges for all of us in the global humanitarian community, who will have to completely reassess whom we can continue to serve and how.”
Caritas, which is based in Vatican territory in Rome, stated in the release that the harmful effects of the administration’s decision would be “catastrophic.”

Strangely, the press release makes absolutely no mention of USID funding that went to pro-abortion groups or for programs that promote abortion or population control, which violate Catholic Church teachings.
“For many years, USAID was part of the criminal Abortion Cartel, promoting the killing of innocent babies in the womb and coercing developing nations to accept abortion,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. “Thanks to President Trump, that bloody reign of terror inflicted on the world by the Biden Administration has now come to an end. We call on President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio to take steps to ensure that our tax money will never again be used to kill babies in the womb.”
The Biden Administration had heavily used taxpayer money funneled through USAID to push and pay for abortions worldwide.
Under Biden’s administration, USAID budgeted $607.5 million during the 2022 Fiscal Year alone for its bilateral family planning and reproductive health program. That money went to expanding and funding abortion programs and organizations. Third world countries in Africa were especially targeted for abortion expansion.
According to an MSN report, USAID money flowed to the tune of just under $27 million annually to Marie Stopes International, a large, influential abortion business headquartered in the United Kingdom.
In 2020, Operation Rescue’s research showed that the U.S. based Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, a radical group that trains abortionists and pushes the practice of abortion around the world, “partnered” with the Coalition Advancing Multipurpose Innovations (CAMI). Beneath that innocuous-sounding name was an organization that promoted abortion and depopulation programs globally. At that time, its website noted, “This project is made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)…” Today, any mention of USAID has been removed from CAMI’s website.
USAID also sent $4.6 billion to Catholic Relief Services, which funded pro-abortion groups.
During his administration, Joe Biden appointed a radical abortion activist to head the agency. As LifeNews reported at the time:
Samantha Power, Biden’s nominee to head the U.S. Agency for International Development, could weaponize U.S. foreign assistance to promote abortion and the LGBT agenda.
If Power makes abortion and LGBT issues conditions of U.S. foreign assistance, as is anticipated, it may put faith-based groups in a difficult position. Christians, Muslims, Jews, and others with moral objections to these policies may no longer be able to partner with the American people in delivering aid to the poor overseas.
International abortion groups who stand to benefit financially from U.S. funding for abortion praised Biden’s selection of Power.
