Pro-life advocates are preparing for a historic event on June 24 to celebrate life for the tens of thousands of unborn babies who have been saved by the death of Roe v. Wade.

The National Celebrate Life Day will take place in Washington, D.C. on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Dobbs v. Jackson, which allows states to protect unborn babies from abortion again.

About 60,000 unborn babies have been saved so far, and organizers expect thousands to travel to the capital to participate in the pro-life celebration, according to the Catholic News Agency.

“Our celebration is a reflection of a momentous day in history,” Tina Whittington, executive vice president of Students for Life of America, told CNA. “We celebrate the fact that half of all states prevent abortions after 12 weeks one year after Roe’s reversal, but we’re just getting started and far more can be done at the federal level to protect innocent lives from the violence of abortion.”

The rally is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the National Mall. Organizers include Students for Life, 40 Days for Life, Live Action, the Pro-Life Partners Foundation, Sidewalk Advocates for Life and Heartbeat International.

Speaking at the rally will be Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, who led the Dobbs case.

Following the rally will be a pro-life gala at 7 p.m. at The Renaissance in Washington, D.C.

For nearly 50 years under Roe v. Wade, states were forced to allow abortions for any reason up to viability, and more than 64 million unborn babies were aborted.

Now, because of Dobbs, 15 states protect unborn babies by banning all or most abortions, and others are fighting in court to do the same. Research from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America estimates roughly 60,000 unborn babies have been saved from abortion so far.

Pro-life leaders said the June 24 event will be a joyous occasion to celebrate life while also a call to renew efforts to protect the right to life for all unborn babies in America. They pointed to the 14th Amendment, which says the government cannot “deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

“By uniting and demanding ‘The 14th Amendment for All’ will we make America abortion free!” organizers said.
