Actor Kirk Cameron, an adoptive father, pro-life advocate and filmmaker, is one of those rare Hollywood celebrities who is not afraid to speak out against abortion.

On Aug. 10, he is scheduled to headline one of the largest grassroots pro-life banquets in the country, an annual event to benefit Right to Life of Southwest Indiana, the Courier & Press reports.

Cameron first became famous as a young star on the TV series “Growing Pains.” More recently, he has been involved in Christian and pro-life movies, including “Fireproof” and the 2022 film “Lifemark,” which celebrates the life-giving choice of adoption through the true story of Louisiana native David Scotton.

Cameron, who played Scotton’s adoptive father, told Movieguide the film really “resonated with me” because of his own family’s experiences with adoption.

“The adoption option, I think, is such a loving, beautiful place, and I’ve experienced the result of that choice myself,” he told the entertainment site last year. “Like I said, with our four kids, my wife is adopted, and if my wife had not been adopted, we likely would not have our two natural-born children either.”

“Lifemark” was a box office hit in theaters last fall. Through his family’s stories, the film’s success and more, Cameron said he has seen God at work.

“I can’t think of anything that is more incredible than thinking that God somehow orchestrated for that mom who was scared and afraid, to have her trust that a good home could be found for her child,” he said.

Scotton, an attorney, also is scheduled to speak at the Evansville, Indiana banquet in August.

Right to Life of Southwest Indiana leaders said the event benefits a number of pro-life projects, including “installing and maintaining Safe Haven Baby Boxes at local fire departments, providing thousands of diapers to local pregnancy resource centers, educating students and empowering them to make healthy life choices.”

The organization also recently unveiled the Go Mobile Clinic, a traveling pregnancy resource center that provides free services to women seeking pregnancy care in under-served areas in southwestern Indiana.

Thousands of people typically attend the banquet. Past speakers include former Vice President Mike Pence, former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz and Michael Reagan, the adopted son of the late President Ronald Reagan.
