Nancy Mace Trashes Ron DeSantis: Protecting Babies From Abortion is “Extreme”

Congresswoman Nancy Mace has quickly become the least pro-life member of Congress who claims to be pro-life. Once again, Mace aligned herself with racial abortion activists and pro-abortion Democrats by trashing pro-life laws that protect babies from abortions.

In new comments to NewsMax, Mace criticized pro-life Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. In April, DeSantis signed a heartbeat law to protect babies from abortions starting at 6 weeks when their heartbeat is detectable. But Mace is claiming the law he signed to protect babies is “extreme.” Yet for millions of pro-life Americans, the only thing extreme is killing a living human being before birth who has a detectable heartbeat.

Mace said that if DeSantis pledged to take the heartbeat law nationwide during his presidential campaign, that would “alienate” voters.

“It doesn’t matter if you can win the primary. Can you win the general election, can you win the presidency, can you win in 2024,” Mace said on NewsMax. “You can be pro-woman and pro-life, they are not mutually exclusive. That’s what I hear from [former President] Donald Trump versus someone who wants to have an extreme position, someone who alienates independent voters, women, suburban mom voters. Those are the voters we need in the general election.”

It will certainly be harder for a pro-life candidate to win nationwide with someone like Mace, who is supposed to be a pro-life advocate fighting for the right to life of unborn children, calling pro-life laws extreme and giving interviews condensing the pro-life laws pro-life candidates support.

Mace cast further doubt on the sincerity of her pro-life views by adding that she didn’t want “heavy hand of government” dictating abortion policy early in pregnancy — using the same kind of language that leftists use to defend killing babies in abortions.

Mace’s contentions are wrong given polling data showing a strong majority of people favored Florida’s heartbeat law.

Not only do a majority of Floridians support protecting babies from abortion, they support the heartbeat law by a strong 62% margin.

Polling conducted by Ragnar Research for SBA Pro-Life America and the Florida Family Policy Council shows likely Florida voters strongly support protecting human life in the womb once a heartbeat can be detected. Almost three-quarters of voters oppose allowing abortion on demand up until birth. The poll, with a ±4% margin of error, surveyed 500 Floridians statewide from February 27-March 2.

Key poll findings include:

  • 62% of Floridians support legislation to protect unborn babies when a heartbeat is detected, with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.
    • 61% of Independents and 58% of women surveyed support such legislation.
    • Hispanic voters were even more likely than others to support the legislation, at 76%.
  • Only 22% of likely voters support allowing abortion until the moment of birth.

Mace has made multiple comments in recent months attacking pro-life laws and pro-life elected officials. Earlier this month, Mace attacked DeSantis on the heartbeat law and, two weeks ago, she falsely claimed voters don’t want to protect babies from abortions.

DeSantis signed the bill immediately so it could be defended in court. The bill would also provide $25 million in aid to women and families.

“We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida,” DeSantis wrote in a statement. “I applaud the Legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families.”
