The advent of abortions in Lancaster, Pennsylvania demonstrates the abortion industry’s relentless drive to expand abortion in the Commonwealth.

This bucolic community, best known as a sanctuary for the Amish population and a lovely tourist attraction, is now home to a Planned Parenthood that advertises chemical abortion on its website.

The opening of an abortion center in the heart of the homeland came despite a groundswell of opposition from the area. It is unbelievably sad that abortion totals in Lancaster will now rise from zero to who-knows-how-many.

Abortions have been on the rise in the Keystone State, with totals topping 33,000 in 2021, the latest year for which statistics are available from the Department of Health.

The statistics tell a sobering story. Chemical abortions—which often leave a mother to deal with the aftermath of abortion on her own—now vastly outnumber surgical abortions. Research indicates that chemical abortions also have four times the complication rate of surgical abortions. Meanwhile, thousands of women who went in for an abortion in 2021 had already had one or more abortions in the past, indicating that abortion is being used as a form of birth control.

With the opening of this new abortion facility in Lancaster, there’s a likelihood that abortion totals statewide will rise again. This is a tragic situation which should be proclaimed a major public health issue by state authorities.

But under the pro-abortion Shapiro Administration, that is unlikely to happen. It seems that every week Gov. Josh Shapiro is tweeting about his support for abortion. The lack of awareness about what abortion does to an unborn baby and a mother is truly disturbing.

We grieve for the babies lost to abortion in Lancaster County. These children deserved a chance at life. Thankfully, many organizations in south central Pennsylvania stand ready to assist pregnant women facing challenging circumstances.

They can provide the help that Planned Parenthood won’t.
