Catholic Writer: Nancy Pelosi Should be Excommunicated for Promoting Abortion

Nancy Pelosi received more criticism this week for claiming to be a devout Catholic while supporting the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

In a column at the Washington Examiner, commentary writer Christopher Tremoglie said it’s time for the Catholic Church to excommunicate Pelosi, a California congresswoman, unless she repents of her evil ways.

“Nancy Pelosi likes to be thought of as a Catholic,” Tremoglie began. But “given her public disobedience of Catholic teaching on such basic matters as the value of innocent human life, she should be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.”

He said the former U.S. House Speaker uses the Catholic faith for political power, much like the Pharisees did in the Bible. The Pharisees were a group of religious leaders who often displayed holier-than-thou attitudes and eventually handed Jesus over to be crucified by the Romans.

“Like the Pharisees of old, [Pelosi] conspicuously attends Catholic churches for Mass (at least, in places where she hasn’t been banned) and promotes the fact that she is Catholic whenever an opportunity presents itself,” Tremoglie continued.

At the same time, she repeatedly and openly defies the pope and other Catholic leaders, even scoffing publicly at her bishop, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, for denying her communion because of her radical pro-abortion views. In 2021, Cordileone said Pelosi was championing pro-abortion legislation that amounts to “child sacrifice” — what “one would expect from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic” – and refused to repent of her sin.

“I have a problem with my archbishop, well the archbishop of the city I represent,” Pelosi said last week during a speech at Georgetown University. “But I figure that’s his problem, not mine.”

Responding to her comments, Tremoglie said Pelosi uses the “Catholic” label to serve herself, not others.

“Pelosi might be better off starting a new religion where she is the center of worship — where she can exercise all the power she wants,” he wrote. “Jesus never cared about earthly power, and Pelosi doesn’t care about Jesus. She probably needs a divorce from the Catholic Church.”

Last week, Pelosi implied she is more Catholic than many church leaders when she said some bishops are “willing to abandon the bulk” of church teachings to focus too heavily on protecting unborn babies from abortion, according to America Magazine.

She said she believes women have the “free will” to make decisions about their health care. By health care, she meant killing unborn babies in elective abortions.

Pelosi has the opposite view of the church on abortion and a number of other issues. Among other things, she wants to force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions and force nuns who serve the poor and elderly to cover contraception that may cause abortions in their employee health plans. Once, she even called late-term abortions “sacred ground.”

As U.S. House Speaker in 2021, Pelosi led Democrats in passing the most radical pro-abortion bill in U.S. history, nicknamed the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act. The bill, which failed in the U.S. Senate, would have forced states to legalize killing unborn babies for any reason up to birth and forced taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.
