Outraged Montana Senate Democrats walked out of a committee hearing Tuesday because they did not want to hear how abortions brutally kill unborn babies.
According to Montana Public Radio, the Democrat lawmakers objected to what they claimed was “unnecessarily graphic and inflammatory” language about abortions.
The state Senate has been holding hearings on a series of pro-life bills this week, including state House Bill 721. The pro-life legislation would ban dismemberment abortions that kill nearly fully-formed second-trimester unborn babies by pulling them apart limb from limb while their heart is still beating and then removing their body in pieces from the womb.
State Sen. Jen Gross, D-Billings, became angry during the state Senate Judiciary hearing when pro-lifers used the word “barbaric” to describe these abortion procedures, according to the report. She also grew upset when another lawmaker linked abortion to satanism.
According to the report:
[A]fter a senator asked about the relationship between abortion and satanism, Gross argued with the committee’s chair, Republican Sen. Keith Reiger from Kalispell, about that line of questioning being allowed.
“I don’t understand how satanism is relevant to this bill or this discussion today,” Gross said.

In response, Reiger said, “Let’s find out.”
Gross then left the committee and her Democratic colleagues followed her out.
But what pro-life advocates were saying is true. Doctors and former abortionists confirm that second-trimester abortions using the D&E method are barbaric and brutal.
Dr. Anthony Levatino, an OB-GYN and former abortionist who later became pro-life, once described the D&E abortion as a “brutal procedure in which a living human being is torn to pieces.”
Satanic practices and abortion also are linked. One group, The Satanic Temple, is actively involved in pro-abortion advocacy. It recently filed several lawsuits that claim aborting unborn babies is a religious “ritual” and banning abortions violates its members’ religious beliefs.
On Tuesday, Montana Senate Republicans reminded their Democrat colleagues that part of their job as lawmakers is to listen to testimonies, including from constituents, advocates and experts with whom they disagree.
“We get a lot of opinions. That’s what this [is] all about here in the legislature – a lot of opinions. That’s what bills are,” Regier said.
Afterward, Regeir met with Senate Minority Leader Pat Flowers and other Democrats privately to discuss the matter, according to the report.
Republicans control the Montana Legislature. This spring, they are considering legislation to ban late-term abortions, require abortion complications to be reported to the state and make clear that the state constitution does not include a right to abort unborn babies. Other bills would prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions and require aborted babies’ bodies to be cremated or buried.
The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services reported 1,675 abortions in 2020.
