Democrat leaders used to share – or at least profess to share – the goal of fewer abortions.

Now, they openly embrace the opposite goal, investing huge amounts of resources (often taxpayer dollars) into urging women to come to their states to abort their unborn babies.

New York City just spent more than $138,000 on dozens of billboards to advertise abortions to women living in pro-life states, according to The American Independent.

The billboards read “Abortion. Safe + Legal for All in New York City” alongside an image of the Statue of Liberty.

A project of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Abortion Access Hub, the ads direct women to a phone line that provides information about where to get abortions in the city. The department also purchased online ads, spending half a million dollars in total to target unborn babies in pro-life states for abortions, according to the report.

“In New York City, access to abortion care is legal, protected and a critical component of public health,” a city spokesperson told the American Independent. “… We want anyone who might be in need of reproductive healthcare to know that we’re here to provide it.”

The billboards are located in Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia; Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida; and Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, Texas, the report continues.

All three states protect or soon may protect unborn babies from abortion. Texas protects unborn babies by banning all elective abortions, and Georgia prohibits most abortions once an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable. Florida only prohibits abortions after 15 weeks, but state lawmakers are debating heartbeat legislation this month.

Along with passing abortion bans, these states and others also are working to increase aid and medical care for mothers, all with the goal of saving lives. Many women who consider abortion do so out of fear and desperation, and often support services give them the hope and encouragement they need to choose life for their unborn babies.

Struggling families need better support, but instead pro-abortion activists are pushing them to kill a member of their family. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Democrat-led states like New York and California have been spending millions of dollars to put more pressure on women to abort their unborn babies.

Last fall, New York City leaders budgeted $1 million to promote and provide abortions, including to pregnant mothers from other states, according to the Independent. The city plans to give out at least 10,000 free abortion pills this year, too.

In California, Democrat leaders also have been spending millions to push for more abortions, including a similar pro-abortion billboard campaign in pro-life states. Additionally, they are dumping tens of millions of dollars into training more abortionistscreating grants for abortion facilities to increase security and paying travel expenses for women to abort their unborn babies.

Meanwhile, pro-life advocates across the country are expanding support for pregnant and parenting families, both through legislative and community-based initiatives.

Many are working to expand Medicaid for new mothers, create tax credits for unborn babies and ensure workplace accommodations (paid parental leave, flexible hours) for parents. Others are opening and expanding pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes and other community-based charities that walk alongside struggling families locally, providing material support, information, counseling, encouragement and more.

Currently, 14 states protect unborn babies by banning or strictly limiting abortions, and more are expected to do so this year.
