AP Fact Check Falsely Claims Abortion Pills are Safe, But Not for the Baby

The liberal media portray themselves as the “independent fact-checkers,” but the facts take a hike when they’re lining up with liberals on “gender-affirming care”…and “safe” abortions. This week as were checking on the Associated Press flagging us for “missing context” on Silicon Valley Bank, it became obvious that AP was “missing context” by claiming abortions by pill are “safe and effective.” For which half of the abortion? For the baby?

Under the headline “Research shows medication abortions are safe,” the “fact check” by Josh Kelety began:

CLAIM: Medication abortions are dangerous, and result in high rates of infection and hemorrhage. Parts of the baby are also left in the womb following the procedure.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Research shows that medication abortions, which involve taking pills to end a pregnancy, are safe and effective, experts say. Complications after abortions using pills, such as infection, are rare.

“Independent fact-checkers” sound like they’re funded by Planned Parenthood. Have you ever noticed that leftists who want to ruin someone’s career for “misgendering” someone who’s in denial of their true gender endlessly demean unborn babies as “a pregnancy”? Why is that terminology not seen as ideological and dehumanizing?

Then came the “experts,” who are both abortion providers.

“They are incredibly safe,” Emily Godfrey, an associate professor of family medicine and obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington School of Medicine, told The Associated Press. “Less than 1% of people who have sought a medication abortion have had complications.”

Alison Edelman, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Oregon Health & Science University, pointed to a 2018 report published by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that found “complications after medication abortion, such as hemorrhage, hospitalization, persistent pain, infection, or prolonged heavy bleeding, are rare—occurring in no more than a fraction of a percent of patients.”

Dr. Godfrey’s abortion work was highlighted in The New York Times. Dr. Edelman’s team in “complex family planning” was intensely sad when Roe was overturned.

But wait, it grew worse. The AP “fact check” argued there’s “no baby there” in the womb to abort!

Godfrey said that prior to eight weeks, when many patients are seeking abortions, the pregnancy consists of an embryo, not a fetus.

There is no baby there. The embryo is the size of a piece of rice. There is nothing to be left behind,” she said. “Arms don’t really develop until nine weeks of pregnancy. Again, they are millimeters in length.”

Earth to the doctor: there’s a baby there!

Emily Godfrey and Alison Edelman and Josh Kelety were all babies the size of a kidney bean once. Now they favor the side of crushing the unwanted babies into hummus.
