Kamala Harris visited Iowa on Thursday as part of her on-going efforts to promote abortion on demand across the country.

Speaking with abortion activists and politicians in Des Moines, Harris described killing unborn babies in abortions as a matter of “freedom and liberty” as she slammed the state legislature for trying to pass an abortion ban, according to CBS 2 Iowa.

“The government should not be telling her, or any individual, what to do with their body,” Harris said, later adding, “We each are entitled to freedom and liberty in its most basic manifestation, and this is not about freedom and liberty.”

Harris specifically named state Attorney General Brenna Bird in her criticism, after the female leader joined other states in asking a judge to revoke FDA approval of the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone, the report continues. The drug has been linked to the deaths of millions of unborn babies and dozens of women.

“What we know in Iowa is that there is an attorney general who has joined attorney generals around the country who are asking the courts to overturn an FDA approved medication mifepristone,” Harris said.

Right now, Iowa lawmakers are considering a bill to protect unborn babies by banning all elective abortions.

In 2018, the legislature also passed a heartbeat law that bans abortions once an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detectable, about six weeks of pregnancy, but abortion activists sued and the courts blocked it before the law went into effect.

The Iowa Supreme Court currently is considering an appeal to reinstate the law. The pro-life law allows exceptions for medical emergencies, including threats to the mother’s life and serious risk of bodily harm, and for cases of rape, incest and fetal abnormality.

Iowa is one of eight states that is fighting in court to enforce laws that protect unborn babies from abortions. Currently, 14 others are enforcing pro-life laws that prohibit or strictly limit the killing of unborn babies in abortions. SBA Pro-Life America estimates these state laws are saving more than 125,000 unborn babies’ lives.

For nearly 50 years under Roe v. Wade, abortions destroyed more than 64 million unborn babies. Only now that Roe has been overturned may states again protect the right to life for all human beings, born and unborn.

Two new polls show growing public support for legal protections for unborn babies. A Marist College poll found 69 percent of Americans support limiting or banning abortions, up from 62 percent in June. Another new poll from UMass Amherst found a 5-percent drop in those who say Congress should pass a law to make abortions legal nation-wide and a 6-percent increase in support for a national abortion ban, WCVB News reports.
