Failed political candidate turned abortion activist Wendy Davis just took on a new role with the abortion chain Planned Parenthood in Texas.

According to the Texas Tribune, Davis will serve as the senior adviser to Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, the abortion chain’s political arm, joining several other new leaders.

Abortion activists expressed hope that Davis will invigorate more grassroots pro-abortion action in Texas, where killing unborn babies is now banned and voters elected more pro-life Republicans to the state legislature in November.

“Wendy is an icon of the reproductive rights movement. She’s an icon of the progressive movement in Texas,” new co-executive director Drucilla Tigner told the Tribune. “With her, … we have the opportunity to really build the movement that we want to see.”

Nearly a decade ago, Davis came into the national spotlight because of her abortion advocacy. In 2013, news outlets and activist groups tried to make the former Democrat state senator into a star after she filibustered a pro-life bill in the Texas Senate while wearing pink tennis shoes.

Despite the positive media attention, however, Davis’s radical pro-abortion views never received much public support. Since then, she repeatedly has lost elections including for governor and U.S. Congress.

Tigner admitted that they do not have much hope of legalizing abortion again soon in Texas.

According to the Tribune:

This legislative session, Tigner said, the organization is focusing on raising awareness around bills that are targeting access to contraception and filing proactive legislation that would restore Planned Parenthood’s access to state funding and repeal the abortion bans that went into effect last summer.

“While we know that this legislative session is not likely to be the session that those things pass, we have to start fighting for the world that we want right now,” Tigner said.

In a statement, Davis said she is ready to fight for “crucial healthcare” anyway and keep “pushing back against extremist attacks on our most fundamental rights.”

However, many of Planned Parenthood’s non-abortion services have been declining rapidly over the past decade, according to its own annual reports. Meanwhile, its abortion numbers have been steadily increasing, and Planned Parenthood reported a record 383,460 abortions in 2020.

Killing unborn babies in abortions is not health care or a right, and Texas laws are protecting thousands of mothers and unborn babies from abortion every month.

Since June when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wadeabortions have dropped 99 percent in Texas, according to state health statistics.

For the month of August 2022, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission reported zero elective abortions and three medically necessary abortions. In that same month a year earlier, 5,706 unborn babies were aborted; and two months earlier, in June of 2022 prior to the overturning of Roe, 2,596 abortions were reported, according to the department.

Texas Right to Life estimates as many as 50,000 unborn babies have been saved from abortion since the state heartbeat law went into effect in September of 2021 and then the abortion ban in July of 2022.

Although some women are traveling to states like New Mexico to abort their unborn babies and some are obtaining illegal abortion drugs from abortion activists, many others are choosing life for their unborn babies. These include the mothers of Kendall, Olivia and Cason whose stories have been featured in national news reports.

Texas pro-life advocates also have been expanding support services for pregnant and parenting families, including through new maternity homes and pregnancy resource centers. State lawmakers also increased support for programs that serve pregnant and parenting mothers and babiesensuring that they have resources to choose life for their babies.
