The Catholic bishops of New Mexico implored Christians to pray for their state as satanic groups and pro-abortion lawmakers work to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions.
The Catholic news site Crux reports Santa Fe Archbishop John Wester, Las Cruces Bishop Peter Baldacchino, Gallup Bishop James Wall and other Catholic leaders issued the statement Tuesday in response to news that The Satanic Temple plans to open an abortion facility in their state. The satanic group believes aborting unborn babies is a religious “ritual” and compares it to communion or baptism for Christians.
“The last thing we need in our state is a satanic temple from Massachusetts to offer free ‘reproductive health’ services,” the bishops said. “We shudder to think what the ‘Religious Abortion Ritual’ that they require is all about.”
The bishops also warned New Mexicans about pro-abortion House Bill 7, which is moving through the state House and would force teachers and other public employees to help facilitate abortions.
“This bill is neither about care nor freedom, for it denies essential truths about God’s plan for humanity and seeks to supplant God’s vision with the lies and shackles of the evil one,” they said.

“It will force school teachers to facilitate abortions and even promote transgender surgeries among school children,” the bishops continued. “It is, in fact, the most radical bill of its kind in the nation and continues New Mexico’s penchant for rejecting the most vulnerable and weak among us.”
The Catholic leaders urged people to speak out and pray for an end to abortion in their state.
“We, the Catholic bishops of New Mexico, want to encourage all the faithful of the State of New Mexico, and indeed all men and women of goodwill, to continue to pray and work for a complete end to abortion in our state and in our nation, and for a thorough conversion of hearts to the Gospel of Life,” they said.
New Mexico allows unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth and has become a destination spot for new abortion businesses, especially ones that previously operated in states that now protect unborn babies from abortion.
Earlier this month, the Satanic Temple announced plans to open its first abortion facility, The Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic in New Mexico, which will offer abortion drugs to women ages 17 and up who are up to 11 weeks of pregnancy, according to Fox News.
According to a press release from the group, “anyone in New Mexico seeking to perform The Satanic Temple’s abortion ritual will be able to receive free online medical services.”
The satanic group claims killing unborn babies in abortions is a religious ritual, and restricting it violates its “fundamental tenets.” Its leaders also claim pro-life laws are rooted in “Christian nationalism” – even though people of all faiths and no faith believe basic human rights should apply to all human beings.
