An Idaho mother’s photo of her newborn son holding the IUD that was supposed to prevent his conception went viral this week.

In a post on TikTok, Violet Quick, 20, of Idaho, said her son, Rudy, surprised everyone – doctors, nurses and her and her husband, John – by being born despite her using the 99.9-percent effective contraceptive device, according to the New York Post.

“When all the nurses come in to see a baby with his IUD,” Quick wrote in the post, which has nearly 23 million views.

Quick’s photo shows her newborn son holding the IUD, a T-shaped contraceptive device that is implanted in the uterine wall to prevent pregnancy, in the hospital bed shortly after she gave birth.

The young mother said she decided to go on contraception when she and her husband got married. About a year later, however, Quick said she began to experience pregnancy symptoms.

“I was feeling nauseous for about two weeks and I would just throw up every once in a while,” she said.

She went through seven pregnancy tests, all of which showed positive, and then a trip to the emergency room confirmed that she was indeed seven weeks pregnant, according to the report.

Quick is not the first to become pregnant on the IUD. In 2020, doctors at Hai Phong International Hospital in Hai Phong, Vietnam shared news about another baby who also was born along with his mother’s IUD.
