Man Conceived in Rape: “The Circumstances of My Conception Do Not Determine My Worth”

In a moving testimony outside the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Washington, D.C., one man reminded society that children conceived in even the worst of circumstances are still valuable human beings who deserve life.

Pro-life advocate Mark Roepke was conceived in rape when his mother was only 14 years old, according to God TV. Speaking at a rally Jan. 19 in Washington, D.C., Roepke became emotional as he shared what happened to his mother and what could have happened to him before he was born.

“The circumstances of my conception do not determine my worth as a human being,” he said.

In 1970, Roepke said his mother was raped at a 4th of July party. Being only 14, she decided on adoption, and her baby boy was adopted into a loving Christian home, according to the report.

Then, in elementary school, he heard the word “abortion” for the first time. When he asked his father about it later, Roepke said the truth horrified him.

“I didn’t hardly sleep,” he said with emotion. “To know that people were killing their children because they were inconvenient horrified me.”

Later, he realized that he, too, could have been a victim of abortion. In an interview with AZ Central,  Roepke said if he had been conceived just a few years later after Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973, it would have been easy for his mother to have chosen or been pressured into an abortion.

“I could have been medical waste, disposed of by Planned Parenthood, or sold to somebody for medical research,” he told the news outlet. “That could have been my lot in life. I was blessed that there was another option.”

Speaking outside the Planned Parenthood in January, Roepke celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe last June. Now, 14 states protect unborn babies from abortion, and even more are trying to do the same. As a result, pro-life leaders estimate tens of thousands of unborn babies’ lives already have been saved.

“I am pro-life for the whole life. God bless you all,” he concluded.

Abortion activists frequently bring up tragic circumstances like rape to claim a need for legalized abortion. But research and victims’ own testimonies contradict the claim. Many victims of rape recognize that their unborn babies are second victims and refuse to consider abortion. Others who do share heartbreaking stories about how their abortions – the violent destruction of their unborn babies’ lives – only added to their trauma.
