New polling conducted by Differentiator Data for NC Values, NC Faith & Freedom Coalition and Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America shows 67% of North Carolina voters support limits on abortion. Notably, by a 14-point margin, voters preferred legislation to protect unborn children when a heartbeat can be detected, with exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother, versus the Democratic Party platform that calls for abortion on demand without limits throughout pregnancy. The poll surveyed 500 registered voters statewide from January 9-12, 2023 and has a margin of error of 4.5%.

Attorney General Josh Stein, who has announced his candidacy for governor of North Carolina, has publicly stated he does not support a limit on abortion, standing against current state law that limits abortions at 20 weeks’ gestation.

Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of NC Values Coalition, welcomed the new polling and voiced her support for heartbeat protections:
“Josh Stein will keep the abortion industry as a priority if elected governor. Contrast that to Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s recent statements advocating for a heartbeat law. We urge any future candidates for governor to take note that North Carolinians believe in protecting babies with a heartbeat over the extreme position of Josh Stein and the Democratic Party.”
Jason Williams, executive director for NC Faith & Freedom Coalition, also stated:
“This past weekend we celebrated the repeal of Roe v. Wade, but we recognize that the fight to protect life is not over. North Carolina is a pro-life state. When given the choice, 67% of North Carolina voters prefer leaders and legislation that protect the life of a baby, especially once a heartbeat is detected.”
SBA Pro-Life America’s Southern Regional Director Caitlin Connors commented:
“Unborn babies are human beings, with hearts that beat approximately 54 million times before birth. North Carolinians have compassionate hearts, too, and strongly support protecting these vulnerable children and their mothers over a policy of abortion-on-demand. Nationally, only 10% of voters agree with the Democratic Party’s—and Josh Stein’s—extreme position of abortion on demand up to birth. The elected officials of North Carolina should listen to their constituents and support life-saving legislation.”
