Pro-Life Democrats Protest at Democrat Party HQ: Stop Pushing “Baby Genocide”

Coinciding with two new polls showing growing support for abortion limits, pro-life Democrats and progressives held a rally Wednesday outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters to urge party leaders to re-think their radical pro-abortion position.

The Democratic Party platform is extreme and out of touch with most Americans, and recently its leaders have refused to even listen to Democrats who believe unborn babies deserve protections and care.

So, pro-life advocates with Democrats for Life, Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) and Pro-Life San Francisco showed up outside its Washington, D.C. headquarters this week with signs urging the party to be “Pro-life for the whole life” and end “baby genocide.”

One PAAU advocate held a sign that read, “DNC exploits prenatal people for power,” as she displayed the fetal model of what appears to be a second-trimester baby.

Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life, said their requests to meet with DNC chairman Jaime Harrison have been ignored for years.

“He never answered our call for ways to further build the party, and his arrogance is costing us seats,” Day said.

An analysis by Democrats for Life director of analytics J.T. Kopcyznski found Democrats lost 919 seats between 2010 and 2016 as the party grew more radical on abortion. In 2016, the party adopted a new platform that supports abortions without limits and calls for forcing Americans to fund elective abortions with their tax dollars.

Polls consistently show strong public opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions, and two new polls this week found growing support for legal protections for unborn babies.

Marist College poll found 69 percent of Americans support limiting or banning abortions, up from 62 percent in June. Similarly, another new poll from UMass Amherst found a 5-percent drop in those who say Congress should pass a law to make abortions legal nation-wide and a 6-percent increase in support for a national abortion ban, WCVB News reports.

“If the Democratic Party and its leadership continue to advance taxpayer funding of abortion and late-term abortions without regulation, the losses will continue,” Day said. “The party needs pro-life Democrats because it is at risk of further hemorrhaging seats to Republicans because of their unwillingness to be inclusive. It is clear hypocrisy.”

Political progressives with PAAU also believe the party needs to change its stance on abortion.

PAAU founder and executive director Terrisa Bukovinac said she supports Democratic leaders’ efforts to increase the minimum wage and protect BIPOC, immigrants and LGBTQ+ people. On the issue of abortion, however, she said the party’s “hands are soaked in blood.”

“It is the responsibility of every progressive to demand human rights for these defenseless and sometimes viable children in the name of the values we claim to share: a commitment to human equality, non-violence, and nondiscrimination,” Bukovinac said.

Day said they want to work with party leaders to create a “reasonable compromise on abortion policy” that stops pushing abortions on “financially insecure women” and starts supporting “equity for pregnancy outcomes.”

“A majority of Democrats want to see elective second-trimester and late-term abortion more regulated and limited than it is today, and we demand representation. Abortion extremism is not progress,” she said.
