A pro-abortion activist nurse has been awarded an OBE for services to abortion, including the promotion of buffer zones, in the New Year Honours List, which has been slammed by SPUC as a “national disgrace”.
Nicola Louise Bailey is a nurse who has provided abortion in Northern Ireland by setting up the “Rose Clinic”, an abortion facility in Belfast, for which she received a Royal College of Nursing (RCN) award in 2022, as reported by SPUC.
After being honoured as RCN Nurse of the Year, Ms Bailey has now been given an OBE by the UK Government for what it refers to as “services to Healthcare”.
Following the announcement, Ms Bailey was again congratulated by the RCN for providing “early medical abortions to women in Northern Ireland during the pandemic” as well as campaigning for buffer zones.
Ms Bailey, responding to the OBE award, said: “It is a great honour to receive this award and to be recognised for doing something that I feel passionately about… This honour will further drive me to improve women’s health services.”

But pro-life advocates have blasted the OBE as an attempt to “normalise” abortion and “confirms a commitment to its provision and normalisation.”
A SPUC spokesperson said: “This shameful awarding of an OBE to Ms Bailey yet again exposes the Government as anti-life, having surrendered to pro-abortion ideologues and their anti-woman, profoundly harmful policies.
“At a time when pro-life advocates are being arrested for the crime of silent prayer outside abortion facilities, and when women are exposed even more to abortion coercion, not only is this OBE untimely and gross, but is also, quite frankly, a national disgrace.”
