Milwaukee Will Vote on Measure Urging State to Repeal Abortion Ban, Kill Unborn Babies

Unborn babies are being protected from abortion all across Wisconsin, but the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors wants to change that.

On Thursday, the board voted 14-3 in favor of a county-wide ballot measure asking voters to support repealing the state abortion ban, FOX 6 Now reports.

The April 2023 referendum will ask county voters: “Should Wisconsin Statute 940.04, which bans abortion at any stage of pregnancy without exception for rape, incest, or health of the patient, be repealed to allow legal access to abortion care?”

However, the question may mislead voters. The law does protect pregnant mothers by allowing abortions in the rare cases when her life is at risk. What’s more, tens of thousands of doctors say killing unborn babies in abortions is not health “care.”

During the meeting, Supervisor Steve Taylor suggested voters also may not understand that the referendum is advisory, meaning it is a statement of support but it has no effect on the law, according to the report.

“I feel bad for the supporters out in the public for this referendum question, and I feel bad for the advocates on this issue who are supportive of putting this on the ballot, because nothing’s going to change,” Taylor said. “To think that putting it on the ballot in April is going to change anything, you’re fooling yourself.”

Supervisor Ryan Clancy responded that he believes “it’s the right thing to do” even if the referendum has no legal weight, the report continues.

Another supervisor, Deanna Alexander, who voted against the pro-abortion measure, pushed back against claims that the abortion ban should be repealed because it is old and no longer relevant.

“We do have old laws on the books,” she told the board. “We have old laws on the books like do not murder, do not steal. Some of these are fundamental, so I hate to say that just because something is an old law that makes it a bad law.”

The others who joined her in voting no were Supervisors Patti Logsdon and Steve Taylor; and Kathleen Vincent abstained.

Wisconsin has a pre-Roe v. Wade abortion ban that went back into effect in June after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned its infamous 1973 ruling. Now, unborn babies are being saved from abortion all across the state.

State Attorney General Josh Kaul, a pro-abortion Democrat, filed a lawsuit challenging the ban, and three abortionists later joined him. However, they have not succeeded in convincing a court to block the law thus far.

Prior to the June ruling Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, abortions were legal for any reason up to 20 weeks in Wisconsin, and more than 6,400 unborn babies were aborted every year.

In June, the Supreme Court overturned Roe in a historic victory for life and returned the power to legislate abortion to the people. Now, states may protect unborn babies from abortion for the first time in nearly 50 years. New research estimates state pro-life laws have saved as many as 10,000 unborn babies’ lives since June.

Currently, Wisconsin and 13 other states are enforcing laws that ban or strictly limit abortions. Eight additional states are battling in court to legally protect unborn babies from abortion.
