World-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson slammed the “wokeness” of the political left after a Detroit, Michigan school board voted to remove his name from a city high school.

“It’s very sad that we’ve reached the point where political ideology trumps the whole purpose of an educational institution,” Carson told Fox News. “And we’re seeing this wokeness spreading throughout our community to the destruction of our community.”

The change was political. Carson, an African American, rose from poverty in a single-parent home in Detroit to attend Yale University and become a celebrated pediatric neurosurgeon. He is known world-wide as a pioneer in surgeries to separate conjoined twins.

Carson also is a pro-life Republican who worked under the Trump administration, and for that reason he was “canceled.”

According to The National Desk, the Detroit Public Schools Board of Education voted in November to remove Carson’s name from the Ben Carson High School of Science and Medicine in the city.

Carson said he does not care about the name change itself but about what it represents, and he expressed concern about the “woke” agenda taking precedence over children’s well-being.

“How does it do any good for us to demonize people with whom we disagree and to teach that to our children at a time when the math scores are down, the reading scores are down, academic performance is down?” he told Fox News. “We’re failing them by pushing this ideology.”

Last week, dozens of his former staffers published an op-ed criticizing the Detroit school board for its decision.

“We, former staff for Dr. Carson at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, write to set the record straight and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the good doctor, with the hope that more focus is shined on students and less on perceived political slights,” they wrote.

On Facebook, Carson thanked them for their support while urging leaders to focus on investing in children’s education.

“Although it saddens me, my focus is helping our country’s biggest asset: our children,” he wrote Dec. 8. “I don’t care what any school is named so long as every child gets an equal chance at becoming what they aspire to be.”

Carson is a longtime pro-lfie advocate and, earlier this year, condemned abortion.

“I feel like our culture has forgotten—or ignored—some very important and basic lessons when it comes to the development of human life,” Carson says. “Our society has been infected by an anti-life ideology, treating its most vulnerable members as disposable objects. Abortion that was once thought of as a last resort in a medical emergency has become the new normal.”

“Medicine tells us that life begins at the moment of conception. It also tells us when an unborn baby develops a heartbeat, brainwaves, and nervous system. Yet, despite all of this, the unborn are not treated as though they are alive or even human,” Carson continues.

“As a surgeon, I have operated on infants pre-birth. I can assure you that they are very much alive,” Carson confirms.

The doctor added, “Life is a precious gift that has been given to us from our creator. No person is disposable, and every life is precious according to Him.”

“I believe that everyone deserves life, even those who have been denied this right by our society. I believe that together we can make a difference and bring dignity and a voice to the unborn. I also believe that I’m not alone in this belief,” Carson concluded.
