Elizabeth Warren doesn’t care if Senate Democrats don’t have the votes to overcome a Republican filibuster on legislation to legalize abortions up to birth nationwide, she wants a vote on it anyway.
As LifeNews reported yesterday, Joe Biden admitted that legislation to legalize abortions up to birth nationwide will probably not pass because it appears Republicans will likely capture the House.
“I don’t think there’s enough votes,” he said.
“Mr. President what should Americans expect from Congress as it relates to abortion rights after the midterms?” a reporter yelled to Biden during a question and answer period after his remarks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Indonesia.
Biden said abortion advocates would have to lower their expectations but confirmed he still supports the abortions up to birth bill.
“I don’t think they can expect much of anything other than we’re going to maintain our positions. I’m not going to get into more questions. I shouldn’t even have answered your question,” Biden said.
“I don’t think there’s enough votes to codify [Roe], unless something happens unusual in the House. I think we’re going to get very close in the House. I think we’re going to be very close, but I don’t think we’re going to make it,” he added.

But Elizabeth Warren doesn’t care. She wants a vote on abortions up to birth — but not on a reasonable bill to ban abortions at 15 weeks and make America like most of Europe.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said she’d like to see her party once again introduce legislation to enshrine abortion rights and “make sure that every Republican is on the record on abortion.”
But Warren isn’t calling for the Graham bill to come to the floor to squeeze the GOP.
“That thing is so horrible, I don’t want to see it any place except in the bottom of the trash barrel,” she said.
Another pro-abortion Democrat understands the political reality a little better.
Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) said that the “first and foremost job” for Democrats is “to stop any effort to put a national ban in place,” while the second is to “look for all the ways that we can continue to protect access to abortion care,” citing medication abortion.
“Unless we have the votes in the Senate to change the rules in order to pass legislation, that’s the world that we live in,” she said. “But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t useful to press the issue. Because it helps to educate people, it helps to organize people around the issue.”
Before the election, Biden wanted more Democrats sent to Congress so he could push the abortions up to birth bill forward.
“The first bill I will send to the Congress will be to codify Roe v. Wade. And when Congress passes it, I’ll sign it in January, 50 years after Roe was first decided the law of the land,” Biden said in October.
Meanwhile, White House senior adviser Anita Dunn said Sunday that President Joe Biden will push Congress to legalize abortion on demand nationwide if Democrats win control of both houses.
Speaking on CBS News “Face The Nation,” Dunn reiterated the president’s priority to pass pro-abortion legislation in 2023, Newxmax reports.
“The president has been very clear. He believes Congress needs to codify Roe v. Wade so that it is the national law of the land. And we do not have states that have, in effect, prohibited abortion totally,” Dunn said. “And at this point, there are a significant number of states that have … everything short of outright prohibition on abortion.”
Because the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, 13 states now are enforcing pro-life laws that prohibit or strictly limit the killing of unborn babies in abortions, and others are fighting in court to do the same. New research this month estimates up to 10,000 unborn babies already have been saved from abortion.
But Dunn confirmed the Biden administration is working to thwart those life-saving laws so women can continue to abort their unborn babies.
“He will continue to work, as our administration has since this ruling came down, to make sure that the travel of women who want to go to states where abortion is legal is not impeded, that people are able to get reproductive health care,” she told CBS News.
Speaking about the midterm election results, Dunn said Biden will try to legalize abortions again nation-wide if Democrats win control of both the U.S. House and Senate. Some races still have not been called, and the U.S. Senate race in Georgia is going into a runoff.
“So the president’s been very clear what Congress needs to do. And he has said if Democrats control the House and Senate, that he will send a bill to codify this nationally,” she said.
The “codify Roe” bill actually would go much further than the 1973 ruling. Nicknamed the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act, it would force states to legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth and force taxpayers to pay for them. The bill, which Democrats named the Women’s Health Protection Act, also would end parental consent for minors and jeopardize conscience protections for doctors and nurses who refuse to abort unborn babies.
Polls consistently show that Americans support limits on abortion, including parental consent and bans on taxpayer funding for elective abortions.
A 2022 Marist poll found that just 36 percent of Americans believe abortions should be legal without any restrictions. Additionally, 73 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions.
Similarly, a 2021 Associated Press poll found that 65 percent believe second-trimester abortions should be illegal and 80 percent believe they should be illegal in the third trimester.
In October, U.S. Catholic bishops condemned Biden’s “single-minded extremism” on abortion after he named the radical pro-abortion bill as his top priority for 2023. One archbishop described the legislation as “child sacrifice,” saying it’s what “one would expect from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic.”
