Joe Biden will make legalizing abortion on demand his top priority if Democrats win control of Congress in November, a Democrat leader said Tuesday.
The first bill that Biden will advance will be one that “codifies Roe,” the official told CNN. The president plans to make the promise in a speech Tuesday to the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C., as the midterm election approaches, according to the report.
“The first bill he will send to the next Congress will be to codify Roe — and he will sign it around the 50th anniversary of the Roe decision,” the Democratic official said.
Biden also will emphasize how “nearly half the states in the United States have either passed a ban on abortion or will shortly and in many states, abortion is already banned even in cases of rape and incest,” the official said.
Democrats are banking on the abortion issue to win votes in November because their actions on the economy, crime, education and other issues have angered many Americans. But their pro-abortion position also is very extreme, and the bill to “codify Roe” would go much further than the overturned 1973 ruling.
Nicknamed the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act, the legislation would force states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions for basically any reason through all nine months of pregnancy.

The bill, which Democrats named the Women’s Health Protection Act, also would end bans on sex-selection abortions and taxpayer-funded abortions as well as laws that protect women and girls, including parental consent for minors. It also would jeopardize legal protections for doctors and nurses who refuse to abort unborn babies.
Even CNN, a liberal news outlet, questioned how “politically effective” Biden’s promise will be because the president and Democrats are doing so poorly in polls.
“Under Joe Biden and Democrats, Americans have less money in their wallets and more crime in their neighborhoods — that is what this election is about,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Nicole Morales told the Washington Examiner. “As Democrats continue to ignore these issues, they are alienating every family, small business, and hardworking American that is suffering because of their failed policies.”
Democrat leaders hope the overturning of Roe will motivate voters to support their candidates in November, but polls suggest most voters are not that upset about the recent Supreme Court ruling or states protecting unborn babies from abortion.

… a recent CNN/SSRS poll found that the economy remains the central focus for voters, with 90% of them saying it was extremely or very important to their vote. Fewer — 72% — said the same about abortion.
And a New York Times/Sienna poll showed that likely voters see the economy (26%) and inflation (18%) as the most important problem facing the country, with just 5% picking abortion as their top issue.
Polls consistently show that Americans – including many Democrat voters – support legal protections for unborn babies. Polls show strong public opposition to taxpayer funding for abortions and late-term abortions, and support for laws that protect unborn babies from abortion after the first trimester or once their heart begins to beat. Americans overwhelmingly support parental consent for minors, too.
A 2022 Marist poll found that just 36 percent of Americans believe abortions should be legal without any restrictions. Additionally, 73 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions.
Similarly, a 2021 Associated Press poll found that 65 percent believe second-trimester abortions should be illegal and 80 percent believe they should be illegal in the third trimester.
Biden has become the most pro-abortion president in U.S. history. Last year, his administration began allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail without a doctor’s visit. Biden also wants to get rid of the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions, and force VA hospitals and emergency rooms to abort unborn babies.
