New York Gov. Kathy Hochul fulfilled her promise to “fight like hell” for abortions Wednesday by giving more than $13 million tax dollars to abortion businesses in the state.

ABC 7 NY reports the Democrat governor announced the new abortion funding during a speech in Greenwich Village in response to the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade earlier this summer.

“We’ll fight. We’ll fight like hell to make sure that no one ever touches these rights, right here,” Hochul said. “We’ll be that beacon of hope. We’ll be that safe harbor for women all across the nation.”

On Twitter, the governor said 50 abortion providers received a total of $13.4 million in grants through the new state Abortion Provider Support Fund.

“Access to abortion is a human right, and in New York, we’ll always defend that right,” she wrote.

The Hochul administration established the grant program earlier this year to “increase access to abortion services” in New York. According to the grant application, the more unborn babies that an abortion facility aborts, the more money it can receive – up to $250,000.

Abortion facilities may use the money to hire and train new staff, buy medical equipment, advertise abortions and pay for building overhead. The money also may be used for “unreimbursed” abortion costs not covered by insurance or Medicaid for New York women, according to the grant application.

New York laws allow unborn babies to be aborted for basically any reason up to birth. According to the Guttmacher Institute, there were 105,380 abortions in 2017 in the state. New York has the second-highest number of abortion facilities of any state in the country at 89, a recent ANSIRH study found.

Separately, Hochul’s administration recently allocated another $10 million to help abortion facilities increase security.

Her administration also is working directly with abortion businesses through a new Abortion Access Working Group, which meets “regularly with patients, providers and advocates to guide state policy and respond to on-the-ground needs, and enshrined into law a requirement for health plans to cover abortion services without cost-sharing in the State Budget,” according to her office.

Other Democrat-led states also are spending tax dollars to prop up the billion-dollar abortion industry in response to Roe being overturned. California Gov. Gavin Newsom included $20 million in his budget plan to encourage medical students to become abortionists. In March, Oregon lawmakers also approved $15 million in their state budget to pay for women in and out of state to travel for abortions.

Abortions have killed more than 63 million unborn babies in America in the past 50 years. On June 24, for the first time since 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court began allowing states to protect unborn babies from abortion again through the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

Fifteen states already have done so, but some have been blocked by court orders. SBA Pro-Life America estimates more than 125,000 unborn babies are being saved from abortion as a result of the pro-life laws currently in place.
