Joe Biden Falsely Claims Catholic Church Supports Abortion, Killing Babies in Cases of Rape

During a Democrat fundraiser last night, Joe Biden falsely claimed the Catholic Church supports abortion and is okay with killing babies who are conceived in rape.

Biden, only the second Catholic ever elected, has been radically pro-abortion as president. It’s bad enough Biden has flouted his Catholic faith and the teachings of the Catholic Church over and over again, but it’s even worse for him to blatantly misrepresent its pro-life teachings.

During the fundraising event for Democrats at a swanky New York fundraiser, Biden attacked the new 15-week abortion ban proposed by pro-life Senator Lindsey Graham.

“You have Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and others talking about how they’re gonna you know, make sure that Roe is forever gone and Dobbs becomes a national law,” Biden said according to multiple media reports.

“Talk about, what, no exceptions. Rape, incest, no exceptions,” Biden continued. “Now, I’m gonna deal with my generic point. I happen to be a practicing Roman Catholic, my Church doesn’t even make that argument.”

But the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church are very clear: it’s wrong to kill babies in abortions just because they were conceived in rape. The status of their conception doesn’t change the fact that they are human beings who have a right to life.

“Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion,” the Catechism of the Catholic Church states. “This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed as an ends or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law” (No. 2271).

Meanwhile, the Catholic bishops in America have also addressed this issue very clearly:

“(A)ny woman subjected to sexual assault needs our compassionate and understanding care, including psychological and spiritual as well as medical support,” Richard Doerflinger, the then-associate director of the pro-life secretariat, said in a July 2013 commentary on the U.S. bishops’ website.

“(A)ny child conceived in rape is, like his or her mother, an innocent victim. That child, too, has a right to life, and destroying the child does not punish the rapist or end the woman’s trauma,” he added.

In comments to LifeNews, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life says Biden is obviously wrong.

“Biden’s apparent confusion here reflects the current political strategy of the abortion-promoting Democrats: scare the voters into thinking that voting for Republicans means a ban on abortions without any exceptions, even for the most scary and tragic circumstances,” he said.

“The Catholic Church, of course, never justifies the killing of an innocent person by abortion,” he added.

He called on voters to pay attention to how radically pro-abortion Biden and Democrats are nowadays.

“But the focus of pro-life voters right now should be to turn the tables and point out that a vote for Democrats is a vote to impose on the nation abortion without restriction until birth, throwing out the window parental involvement laws, clinic regulations, informed consent, and any limits on late-term abortion whatsoever,” Pavone said. “Ask the Democrat candidates if there’s a single unborn child they are willing to protect.”

Biden’s comments follow on those Pope Francis made this summer, when he criticized Joe Biden, saying it’s “incoherent” for Biden to claim he is a “faithful” Catholic but support killing babies in abortions.

Other Catholic leaders have also condemned Biden for promoting abortion.

Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori criticized Biden in a statement after the president signed a second executive order to expand abortions.

“I continue to call on the president and all our elected officials to increase support and care to mothers and babies, rather than facilitate the destruction of defenseless, voiceless human beings,” said Lori, who chairs the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops pro-life committee.

Lori said America must support families in need, but the Biden administration is doing the opposite.

“It is the wrong direction to take at a moment when we should be working to support women and to build up a culture of life,” the archbishop continued. “Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of our nation, intercede for us as we advocate to protect human life and work toward solutions that will help every mother and child flourish.”

Many U.S. bishops and priests have expressed concerns that pro-abortion Catholic politicians like Biden are “creating scandal” for the Catholic Church by encouraging evil. They have said the church must do something to make it clear that Catholics cannot support the killing of unborn babies in abortions and must repent before participating in communion.

Meanwhile, Biden is calling on Congress to pass a radical pro-abortion bill that would force states to legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth, force Catholic hospitals and pro-life medical workers to participate in the killing of unborn babies and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.

Last fall, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said the legislation amounts to “child sacrifice” and chastised Catholic politicians who support it. He said the bill is what “one would expect from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic.”
