Lindsey Graham Slams Democrats: They Want Abortions Up to Birth Like China or North Korea

Senator Lindsey Graham slammed abortion over the weekend and defended his legislation to ban abortions after 15 weeks in states that have not already passed abortion bans.

During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Graham blasted Democrats for having a radical pro-abortion position of abortions up to birth — which he said is on par with the extreme pro-abortion policies of China and North Korea. In doing so, he also defended the ability of Congress to pass pro-life laws, saying that the Dobbs decision didn’t just allow state legislatures to protect babies from abortions, rather it allowed legislators to protect babies whether in states or Congress.

“First, let me just say that I’m pro-life even in an election year,” he told Fox News’ Shannon Bream. “And for those who suggest that being pro-life is losing politics, I reject that.”

Graham then went after Democrats and said they are promoting legislation that would allow abortion up to the moment of birth.

“What did I do in response?” he said. “I said at 15 weeks when the baby feels pain, sucks his thumb, that we are going to ban abortion, except in cases of rape, incest, life of the mother.”

“If you tell the pro-life movement that we can’t set some national standard to prevent Chinese abortion policy in Maryland or California, there will be a revolt by the pro-life community,” he argued. “The people are with me!”

“Here’s what Dobbs says: Elected officials can make the decisions,” Graham countered. “State or federal. I’m not inconsistent.”

He’s right. The Dobbs opinion makes it clear that: “The Constitution is neutral and leaves the issue for the people and their elected representatives to resolve through the democratic process in the States or Congress….”

“I’m confident the American people would accept a national ban on abortion at 15 weeks, with exceptions for the life of the mother raping, incest,” the South Carolina Republican said.

“And if we can’t do this for the unborn, what good are we to the unborn?” he added.

A recent national poll shows 65% of Americans want limits on abortions.
