House Speaker Nancy Pelosi displayed her ignorance about basic human biology while poking fun at pro-life Republicans on Wednesday, claiming they “think life begins at a candlelight dinner the night before.”
Real Clear Politics reports the Democrat leader made the remarks in response to a new Republican bill that would ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy throughout the U.S.
Most countries across the world prohibit abortions after 15 weeks, and polls consistently show a majority of Americans support laws that protect unborn babies from abortion by this point, if not earlier.
But Pelosi claims killing unborn babies in late-term abortions is “health care” – contradicting tens of thousands of doctors. And she repeatedly ignores basic biological science that confirms human life begins at conception.
On Wednesday, Pelosi made fun of pro-life Republican lawmakers, claiming they believe a baby’s life begins before the parents even have sex.
“There are those in the party that think that life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before…” she told reporters at a press conference, according to the report.
Pro-life Republicans do not believe that, but, unlike Pelosi, they do know the truth. Scientists and doctors, medical textbooks and experts confirm that a unique, living human being comes into existence at conception. This is a well-accepted scientific fact and has been for more than a century. A recent survey of more than 5,500 biologists across the world found 96 percent said it is “correct” that “a human’s life begins at fertilization.”
But pro-abortion Democrat leaders deny the science because it does not fit with their political agenda. Once, Pelosi even called pro-lifers “dumb” for believing the truth.
On Wednesday, she slammed pro-lifers as “extreme MAGA Republicans” for introducing the 15-week ban, a bill that would put United States abortion laws in line with the rest of the world.
“The extreme MAGA Republicans gathered to unveil their latest bill to criminalize women’s health in all 50 states,” Pelosi said, according to Raw Story. “The bill calls for a penalty of five years in federal prison for doctors performing abortions.”
She promised that Democrats will defeat the bill, adding, “We are united in our support for a woman’s right to choose.”
Most of the news media has abandoned any attempts at facts or fairness and joined Democrats in openly denigrating the legislation, portraying it as a mistake and a losing issue for Republicans even though polls consistently show public support for abortion limits after the first trimester.
A recent Wall Street Journal poll found 48 percent of Americans support banning abortions after 15 weeks while just 43 percent oppose it. Another poll by the Associated Press found even stronger support for such legislation, with 65 percent saying most or all abortions should be illegal in the second trimester and 80 percent in the third trimester.
At 15 weeks of pregnancy, unborn babies can suck their thumbs and yawn. Their hearts pump about 26 quarts of blood every day, and they show a preference for their right or left hand. Growing scientific research also indicates unborn babies can feel pain by 15 weeks.
The bill, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, would protect approximately 55,800 unborn babies annually by prohibiting abortions except in cases of rape, incest or threats to the mother’s life.
LifeNews recently highlighted 14 polls showing Americans support strong legal protections for babies in the womb.
