California Gov. Gavin Newsom quoted a well-known Bible verse about “loving your neighbor” to promote the killing of unborn babies in abortions this week in a new ad campaign targeting pro-life states.
On billboards going up in Mississippi and Oklahoma, the Democrat governor asserts that California is demonstrating Christian love by helping women abort their unborn babies and using tax dollars to pay for them.
“Want an abortion? California is ready to help,” one billboard states. Beneath the words are the Bible verse Mark 12:21: “Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these.” It also advertises a new, taxpayer-funded California government website that promotes abortions.
Newsom’s election campaign is paying for pro-abortion billboards in seven states that protect unborn babies from abortion, the governor announced Thursday. They are Texas, Indiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota and Oklahoma.
He admitted that his goal is to encourage women to come to California to abort their unborn babies.
“Just launched billboards in 7 of the most restrictive anti-abortion states that explain how women can access care–no matter where they live,” the governor wrote on Twitter. “To any woman seeking an abortion in these anti-freedom states: CA will defend your right to make decisions about your own health.”

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA Pro-Life America, reacted with horror to Newsom’s distortion of scripture to promote killing unborn babies in abortions.
“This makes me sick. Gavin Newsom quoting Scripture (“Love your neighbor as yourself” – Mark 12:31) in his billboard going up in Oklahoma today advertising California as an abortion tourism destination,” she responded on Twitter. “Simply no words for how twisted this is.”
She said pro-life advocates are the ones truly loving women by providing compassionate resources and support through organizations like Her PLAN, a network of community agencies that provide medical, social and material support to pregnant and parenting mothers.
Others blasted Newsom for obsessing about abortion while ignoring real problems in California with crime, homelessness, the electrical grid, illegal drugs and more.
“Who cares if we can’t keep the lights on —
ABORTION!” wrote conservative commentator Matt Whitlock.
“California Gov Gavin Newsom is so obsessed with aborting unborn children he’s putting billboards up in pro-life states advertising his state as an abortion tourism destination,” SBA Pro-Life America added.
Newsom is actively encouraging women to abort their unborn babies – and using tax dollars to do it.
On Tuesday, his administration unveiled a new, government-run website that tells women living both in and outside of California how to get an abortion, The Center Square reports. The website includes special sections with instructions for underage girls and illegal immigrants who want to abort their unborn babies without their parents or authorities knowing.
Earlier this week, state pro-life leaders criticized the governor for spending tax dollars to help the abortion industry instead of struggling mothers and children.
“All the incentives seem to be towards ‘Hey if you have an unplanned pregnancy, abortion is your answer and we’re going to make that so easy,’” Greg Burt, of the California Family Council, told CBS Los Angeles. “We’re not going to make adoption easy. We’re not going to make having your baby easy. We’re going to make abortion easy. And this website just sends that message.”
The website does not include information about pregnancy and parenting assistance or adoption support, abortion risks or fetal development either. It does not even promote contraception or sex education; it promotes the killing of unborn babies in abortions, telling women how to get a taxpayer-funded abortion or mail-order abortion drugs, or how California taxpayers will help pay for women from pro-life states to travel to abort their unborn babies.
Newsom has been working directly with abortion businesses and pro-abortion groups for months to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions. In May, he said abortion is one of California’s “values,” and he will “fight like hell” to “protect it.”
