Kamala Harris Defends Abortion as “Civil Rights,” But Abortions Kill Black Babies

Kamala Harris held a closed-door meeting with pro-abortion leaders Monday to discuss ways to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions post-Roe v. Wade.

Harris met with civil rights and abortion industry leaders, including Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson and the Rev. Al Sharpton, at the White House where she attempted to link the legalized killing of unborn babies to the fight for racial equality and human rights for all. However, abortions are destroying the black community, killing more African Americans than any other cause.

“When we think of the intersection between the civil rights movement, and the reproductive health and justice movement, there is an extraordinary intersection of interests, priorities and spirit around what it means to stand for all people and ensure that all people have equal access to what they need,” Harris said at a press conference prior to the meeting.

Fox News reports pro-abortion activists requested the meeting earlier this month in a letter to President Joe Biden after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe in the case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

Harris said the abortion ruling has created a “health crisis” in the U.S.

“We know with the Supreme Court having made the decision in Dobbs to take a constitutional right that had been recognized from the people of America, from the women of America, has created a health crisis in America,” she told reporters. “It has highlighted the fact that as we all know, we must be vigilant and we must stand should-to-shoulder to ensure that every voice is represented in a way that allows them equal access to all that they need to thrive.”

But killing unborn babies in abortions is not health care, and African Americans especially suffer as a result of abortions. An estimated 20 million unborn African American babies have been aborted since Roe in 1973.

While abortions hurt families of every race and color, African Americans have a disproportionately high number of abortions compared to other racial groups. Census data indicates that African Americans make up about 13 percent of the U.S. population, but they have nearly 40 percent of all abortions. And New York City health statistics show that more unborn black babies are aborted in the city than are born most years.

Responding Tuesday, National Review editor Kathryn Jean Lopez expressed shock at Harris’s enthusiastic support for the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

“Enthusiasm for abortion — which Kamala Harris represents — is simply the insistence that women have the right to a dead baby. That’s extremism,” she wrote.

Lopez continued:

You may have your Black Lives Matter sign out, but it’s a lie if you don’t consider the lives of the unborn black babies, too. And their mothers might not believe they have any other choice but the one that the vice president of the United States insists is health care and freedom. If that’s the case, freedom is enslavement for all too many young women and girls.

It’s death. It’s misery.

Because of Dobbs, states may protect unborn babies from abortion again. Currently, 15 states protect unborn babies by banning or strictly limiting abortions, and eight more are fighting to do the same. The Lozier Institute estimates about 140,000 unborn babies are being saved from abortions as a result.

But the Biden administration is working to thwart these life-saving efforts. Harris has said they support “unfettered” abortion – meaning the killing of unborn babies for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy, paid for by taxpayers.

Last year, the Biden administration began allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail without a doctor’s visit. Biden also wants to get rid of the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions, and he and Harris are advocating for a radical pro-abortion bill that would force all states to legalize abortion on demand.

In August, Biden signed an executive order that could force American taxpayers to pay for women to travel to abort their unborn babies in elective abortions. Then, last week, the Biden administration announced plans to begin forcing veterans hospitals to do abortions – including in states that ban abortions.

Harris also has been meeting regularly with abortion activists to promote their agenda.
