Once upon a time, in an America that now seems far, far away, a Democratic president said, “Our vision [is one] where abortion is safe and legal, but rare.” That was Bill Clinton in January 1993.
Nearly 30 years later, abortions are hardly rare. The pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute estimates that there were more than 930,000 abortions in 2020. Assuming that figure is accurate, that represents more than 2,500 abortions every single day in the United States.
Compare that to the leading causes of death in the U.S. as ranked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the same year:
· Heart disease: 700,000 deaths.
· Cancer: 600,000 deaths.
· COVID: 315,000 deaths.
· Accidents: 200,000 deaths.
· Stroke: 160,000 deaths.
Clearly, abortion is by far the leading cause of death in America.
There were three times as many deaths from abortion as there were from COVID in 2020. And unlike most incidents of cancer, COVID, or accidents, abortion is a deliberate act meant to guarantee the death of a baby.
Now, if something was causing nearly one million deaths a year, more deaths than heart disease or cancer, you might expect our elected leaders to be alarmed and determined to take action to stop it, or at least dramatically reduce it.

Sadly, no. In fact, among Democrats, it’s the exact opposite. Far from embracing Bill Clinton’s mantra that abortion should be rare, President Joe Biden is all-in for abortion on demand. He and other Democratic leaders have said repeatedly that they think abortion should be available all nine months of pregnancy for any reason. Congressional Democrats even voted against a bill that would have protected children born alive following botched abortions. There is not one abortion Joe Biden and his party would try to prevent.
When the Supreme Court handed down the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision overturning Roe v. Wade and allowing states to regulate abortion, Biden was furious. He said it was “a sad day for the court and the country.” He called on Congress to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, forcing abortion on demand on every state in the union.
Biden is so pro-abortion that he wants everyone to pay for someone else’s abortion with their hard-earned tax dollars. Biden now opposes the Hyde Amendment , a popular bipartisan measure that has prevented taxpayer funding of elective abortions for more than 40 years.
The Biden administration has also been working overtime to ensure that as many babies as possible are destroyed each and every day. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra issued a 5-point plan to ensure access to what he called “abortion care.”
Some Democrats have called for putting abortion clinics on federal property, including in Veterans Affairs hospitals or on military bases . Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) called for putting pop-up abortion tents in federal parks. Can you imagine a Planned Parenthood tent at Mount Rushmore?
Warren and other pro-abortion Democrats have also demanded that Biden declare a “public health emergency” to impose radical abortion policies by executive fiat.
Think about that. We just lived through a “public health emergency”: the COVID-19 pandemic. We did all kinds of extraordinary things, like shutting down our economy, closing our schools, closing our businesses, and closing our churches. Why? To save lives. But Democrats want a “public health emergency” for abortion — to ensure more death!
Far from shooting down these radical proposals, Becerra has confirmed that “every option is on the table” to protect so-called abortion rights. Biden even issued an executive order just after Independence Day pushing more extreme, pro-abortion policies.
Among other things, Biden’s order sought to ensure that death-dealing abortion pills are widely and readily available. His administration might have been asleep at the wheel as the country ran out of baby formula, but don’t worry — it’s doing everything it possibly can to ensure that baby-killing pills are everywhere!
In addition, Biden’s order provided extra security for abortion clinics but totally ignored the left-wing violence aimed at crisis pregnancy centers by groups like “Jane’s Revenge.”
Biden also ordered Attorney General Merrick Garland to participate in an “interagency Task Force on Reproductive Health Care Access.” In other words, in the middle of a massive crime wave, in which people are being killed in record numbers , Biden ordered his Justice Department to spend his time ensuring that more preborn babies are killed, too.
This is way beyond “pro-choice.” Biden’s policies clearly demonstrate that he is “pro-abortion without exception.” He has no regard for life. There is not one abortion he would prevent, not one innocent baby he would save.
Biden campaigned on a promise to unite the country, to bring us together. But only 13% of Americans support abortion on demand. That shouldn’t come as a surprise. This country was founded on the idea that we have a God-given right to life, and we will never be united around the idea of destroying innocent life.
