Instead of providing real support to pregnant mothers in need, abortion businesses are finding new ways post-Roe v. Wade to keep aborting unborn babies.
Currently, 15 states have pro-life laws in place that protect unborn babies by banning abortions. These laws are preventing approximately 139,296 unborn babies from being aborted, according to SBA Pro-Life America, and more states likely will enforce pro-life laws in the coming months.
But some abortion businesses are trying to get around states’ life-saving legislation by selling abortion drugs online.
The Post Millennial reports some abortion groups offer telemedicine appointments and do not ask where the pregnant mother lives, and others “simply giv[e] out abortion inducing medication to anyone who asks, regardless of whether they are pregnant or not, in a hope to saturate the market and disseminate the drugs en masse.”
The abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol typically are prescribed together to abort unborn babies up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. The Biden administration began allowing the abortion drugs to be sold through the mail last year without ever seeing a doctor in person. In England, which began allowing mail-order abortion drugs around the same time, new investigations show a huge increase in ambulance calls and reports of coercion and abuse.

Meanwhile, in the United States, some abortion activists claim the drugs are so safe that women do not need to see a doctor — and promote them in states where abortions are banned.
One European-based abortion group, Aid Access, even sells abortion drugs to women before they are pregnant as an “advance provision,” according to the report. Christie Pitney, a midwife who works for Aid Access, defended the practice, comparing it to getting advanced “medication for traveler’s diarrhea.”

According to Pitney, Aid Access has received 10,000 requests for the medication after the overturn of Roe.
Dr. Jayaram Brindala, the founder of Abortion Telemedicine, said “We don’t have any barriers such as an ID verification or GPS validation” and arrange consultations in the 17 states where telemedicine abortion is legal. But consultations can happen for those in states where the practice is illegal as Abortion Telemedicine does not check IP addresses.
The risks of the abortion drugs are much more common than what abortion activists often claim, with as many as one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment. A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.
In August, a GB News investigation found a 64-percent increase in emergency calls for abortion pill complications since England began allowing abortion drugs to be sold through the mail.
And because pregnant mothers do not see a doctor first, some are much further in their pregnancies than they realize. As a result, there have been reports in England of late-term babies being aborted or born alive.
Earlier this year, MP Carla Lockhart told Parliament about a leaked urgent NHS email from a regional chief midwife who warned of the “escalating risk” of viable, late-term babies being born alive at home due to the mail-order abortion drugs. She said there were 12 cases where the babies showed “signs of life.”
Abortion drugs can be deadly for the mother as well as her unborn baby. In the United States, the FDA has linked the abortion drug mifepristone to at least 26 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications between 2000 and 2018. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.
Concerns about pregnant mothers being coerced or forced into aborting their unborn babies also are growing because of the new ease with which the drugs may be purchased.
Abortion drugs are big business. Mifepristone now is used for more than half of all abortions in the United States, according to a new report from the Guttmacher Institute. In 2020, the drug was responsible for 54 percent of all unborn babies’ abortion deaths, up from 39 percent in 2017, the pro-abortion research group found.
