Joe Biden Tells Congress to Pass Bill Legalizing Abortions Up to Birth Nationwide

During a nationally-televised speech on abortion today, Joe Biden called on Congress to pass a bill to legalize abortions up to birth and said there is a right to kill babies in abortions.

Exactly two weeks following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Biden strongly criticized the Supreme Court decision.

“This was not a decision driven by the Constitution. Despite what the justices and majorities had said, this is not a decision that is driven by history,” Biden claimed even though states across the nation protected babies from abortions for decades before Roe v. Wade.

“We can not allow an out of control Supreme Court, working in conjunction with extremist elements of the Republican party, to take away freedoms…the choice we face as a nation is between the mainstream and the extreme,” he said.

Yet, a new Trafalgar Group poll shows 57.6% of Americans believe all abortions should be banned or banned when an unborn baby’s heartbeat can be detected. Only 11.6% of Americans saying they support abortions up to birth — the position of Joe Biden and the Democrat Party. And a new Harvard/Harris poll shows 75% of Americans essentially support the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

Biden complained the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was an “exercise in raw political power” but the decision took power away from the Supreme Court and restored it back to the states.

Biden also claimed, “The court has made clear it will not protect the rights of women” even as SCOTUS allowed states to protect the rights of unborn women before birth.

As he has previously, Biden called on Congress to pass legislation to overturn every pro-life law nationwide and allow abortions up to birth, saying he would sign it immediately.

“This is the fastest way to restore Roe,” he said.

Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life criticized the speech, saying Big Abortion is running Biden’s administration.

“The abortion industry is obviously running the executive branch of the federal government. That’s what happens when Democrats are in power. Yet there’s really not much the Administration can do,” Pavone. “The law is what it is as determined by the people and not by Joe Biden. And breaking the law is breaking the law. Period.”

Executive Director Janet Morana said Biden is “signaling to the medical profession and the abortion industry that they can go ahead and break the law. He’s saying ‘we got your back.’ It’s despicable.”

Biden will sign an order today directs the Department of Health and Human Services to take new actions to promote as many abortions as possible, especially via the dangerous abortion drug that not only kills babies but has killed and injured women as well.

Biden will also put together a team of lawyers to defend women charged with seeking aboritons even though no state abortion ban charges women — they only charge abortionists for killing babies. This team of pro bono attorneys working at taxpayer expense could also defend abortionists charged under state laws that ban aboritons.

Politico has more on what Biden’s pro-abortion order is expected to do:

The administration will also “consider” several additional actions to shore up privacy rights for patients using digital apps like period trackers and those who are now at risk of being reported to law enforcement by a medical provider. They will also “consider” strengthening protections for doctors performing abortions in medical emergencies by updating the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, and plan to stand up another interagency task force that includes the Attorney General.

Biden has already asked the administration to explore many of these steps, while others remain vague on their exact mechanisms. The White House stressed that none of them would fully restore abortion rights to the tens of millions of people who recently lost them, and argued “that the only way to secure a woman’s right to choose is for Congress to restore the protections of Roe as federal law.”

“Long gone is the Democratic Party of ‘safe, legal, and rare.’ President Biden has once again caved to the extreme abortion lobby, determined to put the full weight of the federal government behind promoting abortion,” said SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Democrats will stop at nothing to promote their agenda of abortion on demand, up until the moment of birth, paid for by the taxpayers – including dangerous mail-order abortion drugs — even if it means gutting the long-standing filibuster, increasing the size of the Supreme Court, or putting abortionists in tents in national parks. We are committed to exposing Democrats’ abortion extremism to voters across key battleground states so this extreme agenda can be soundly rejected at the ballot box this November.”

The order comes in response to abortion activists who say Biden hasn’t done enough to promote killing babies since the Dobbs decision. They want him to set up abortion tents on federal lands, offer taxpayer funded travel vouchers and other financial support for people getting abortions in other states, and to drop all limits on the abortion pill that protect women’s health and safety and to make ti easier to buy abortion drugs from other countries.

Leading pro-life doctors are warning that Joe Biden’s plan to expand at-home abortions in response to Roe v. Wade being overturned will endanger women’s lives.

The Washington Times reports doctors with the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) said abortion drugs are dangerous for mothers as well as their unborn babies especially when taken without medical supervision, which the Biden administration now allows.

“This is dangerous,” said Dr. Christina Francis, an Indiana OB-GYN and CEO-elect of the medical association. “This at-home use of these medications is dangerous for many reasons. We need to protect our women patients from this push for DIY medication abortions.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland also mentioned the abortion drug in his response to the Supreme Court decision, telling states that they “may not ban mifepristone based on disagreement with the FDA’s expert judgment about its safety and efficacy.”

Mifepristone is used to abort unborn babies up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. It blocks the hormone progesterone and basically starves the baby to death. For decades, the FDA required that abortionists provide the drug in-person after a medical examination because of its high risks.

In December, however, the Biden administration got rid of the in-person requirement and began allowing the drug to be sold through the mail. Now, women – or their abusers – can buy the abortion drug online without ever seeing or even talking to a doctor.

Many doctors and researchers have been warning about the dangers of the abortion drug for years, and the Biden administration’s December action raised further alarm.

An in-person medical examination to screen for an ectopic pregnancy and to determine the gestational age of the unborn baby is vitally important for the mother’s health, said Dr. Donna Harrison, current CEO of AAPLOG, according to the Washington Times.

Harrison said ectopic pregnancies are life-threatening and they occur in approximately one in 50 pregnancies.

“By not having an ultrasound, by allowing home [abortion] use, you have 1 out of 50 women who are at risk of dying because the symptoms of a rupturing ectopic pregnancy are exactly the same symptoms as a Mifeprex abortion: pain and bleeding,” she said. Mifeprex is a brand name for mifepristone.

Harrison said some women have bled to death because of an undetected ectopic pregnancy that ruptured after taking abortion drugs.

Several recent studies have found that the risks of the abortion drug are much more common than what abortion activists often claim, with as many as one in 17 women requiring hospital treatment. A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the rate of abortion-related emergency room visits by women taking the abortion drug increased more than 500 percent between 2002 and 2015.

“That figure was before the FDA relaxed its rules, and with all of these restrictions in place, with women having to see a physician in person,” Francis said, according to the report. “So we know that these complications are only going to increase when you remove the physician from that process. So we need to call for better health care for our patients. Women deserve better than what they’re receiving from the abortion industry. They deserve accurate information.”

Abortion drugs are big business. Mifepristone now is used for more than half of all abortions in the United States, according to a new report from the Guttmacher Institute. In 2020, the drug was responsible for 54 percent of all unborn babies’ abortion deaths, up from 39 percent in 2017, the pro-abortion research group found.

The FDA has linked the abortion drug to at least 26 women’s deaths and 4,000 serious complications between 2000 and 2018. However, under President Barack Obama, the FDA stopped requiring that non-fatal complications from mifepristone be reported. So the numbers almost certainly are much higher.
