19 Attorneys General Blast Merrick Garland for Doing Nothing to Stop Pro-Abortion Domestic Terrorism

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, joined by 18 others, urged U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Tuesday to stop the increasing pro-abortion terrorism against pro-life organizations and churches in recent weeks.

In a letter, Yost and the other state attorneys general said pro-life organizations have been vandalized, firebombed or threatened almost every day since May when a leaked draft ruling showed the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

“In America, we solve our differences with debates and ballots, not with bricks and Molotov cocktails,” Yost told Garland.

The attorneys general reminded the Biden administration leader that “justice cannot turn on partisan affiliation” and he has a duty to uphold the law.

“Americans shouldn’t fear for their lives for speaking up for what they believe in,” they said in the letter. “The First Amendment provides the right to speak freely, regardless of the topic and without fear of having your home, workplace or, worse, your life threatened.”

They also criticized Garland for doing nothing to stop picketing outside the homes of U.S. Supreme Court justices, despite a federal law that prohibits such acts.

A pro-abortion group published the justices’ addresses online after the leak, and abortion activists have been protesting outside their houses regularly. Some even posted ominous messages on social media about the justices’ school-age children.

Then, earlier this month, an alleged assassin with a gun was arrested outside the home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh after the man said he planned to kill the justice, according to police. The leaked draft showed Kavanaugh as one of the justices who agrees to overturn Roe in case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

Yost and the other attorneys general told Garland that he must act to stop this growing terrorism.

“Inaction is intolerable in our nation of laws, and it violates your oath of office,” they continued. “Yet, in recent weeks, you have continued to allow illegal actions seemingly because they advance (in the minds of some) the pro-abortion cause.”

They asked Garland to have the U.S. Department of Justice begin its investigation with Jane’s Revenge, a radical anarchist group that has taken credit for vandalizing and firebombing pro-life organizations in Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. They pointed to messages from the group urging abortion activists to “paint, to burn, to cut, (and) to jam” pro-life organizations.

“The FBI has more than enough resources to determine the organization’s members and to track down those carrying out these acts of violence, which qualify as terrorism under federal law,” the attorneys general said.

They also offered to help Garland and his department with the investigations and prosecutions, saying political violence must be punished.

The attorneys general of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia also signed the letter.

While Garland and the Biden administration have condemned the violence, they have not condemned protests outside the justices’ homes. Federal law prohibits protests outside the homes of judges, witnesses, jurors and court officials; such actions are considered intimidation and interference in the judicial system.

The FBI announced an investigation into the pro-abortion violence last week.

Dozens of churches, pro-life organizations and individuals have been targets of arson, vandalism, assault, threats and harassment since the leak, and the U.S. Marshals have been providing extra security to the justices.

According to Axios, a Department of Homeland Security report in May warned that radical abortion activists are threatening to burn down or storm the Supreme Court building and murder justices and their law clerks if the court overturns Roe. The report indicates these pro-abortion extremists also plan to target churches and other places of worship.

Since Roe in 1973, more than 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions.

The Supreme Court is expected to release its final ruling on the Dobbs case later this month.
