Planned Parenthood President Calls Pro-Life Movement a “Small Minority” But 14 Polls Show Americans are Pro-Life

Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson claims that just a “small” minority of people want legal protections for babies in the womb.

But the leader of the largest abortion chain in the U.S. also does not want the American people to have the power to pass laws that limit or ban abortions again.

In an interview with Forbes columnist Liz Elting, McGill Johnson made these contradictory claims while talking about the likelihood that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade this summer.

The 1973 abortion ruling has forced states to legalize abortions for any reason up to viability and allowed abortions up to birth for nearly 50 years. As a result, America has some of the most extreme pro-abortion laws in the world.

Overturning Roe would allow voter-elected state legislatures to make their own laws about abortion and unborn babies’ rights again. But McGill Johnson argued that only a “small” number of Americans want that to happen.

“History tells us that movements are never settled, not even by a landmark court decision,” she told Forbes. “We know that for as long as Roe has been the law of the land—that’s nearly 50 years!—there has been a small but vocal opposition trying to undermine the right to abortion, and they’ve managed to pull the levers of power to push their agenda.”

Although Roe made the U.S. one of only seven countries in the world that allows unborn babies to be aborted electively after 20 weeks, McGill Johnson indicated that she wants even more extreme pro-abortion laws.

“As Reproductive Justice movement leaders have long said, Roe is the floor, not the ceiling,” she told Forbes.

McGill Johnson also pleaded for help, asking people to volunteer and donate to Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar “nonprofit” that aborted more than 350,000 unborn babies in 2019.

But Americans are not on McGill Johnson’s side. Polls consistently show that a strong majority of Americans support stronger legal protections for unborn babies.

LifeNews highlighted 14 recent polls, all of which show public support for pro-life laws. A few examples from the list:

  • May 2022: A Rasmussen/RMG Research poll shows 65% of Americans essentially want Roe overturned.
  • May 2022: A new Trafalgar/Convention of States poll shows 57.6% of Americans believe all abortions should be banned or banned when an unborn baby’s heartbeat can be detected.
  • January 2022: A Marist poll found 71% of Americans want abortions to be illegal or more limited, which essentially supports overturning Roe.
  • December 2021: A Harvard-Harris poll found found 32% of Americans want to repeal Roe v. Wade entirely and another 24% of Americans believe the Supreme Court should uphold the Mississippi abortion ban at issue in the recent Supreme Court case, which bans abortions on unborn babies up to 15 weeks. That’s 56% of Americans who are for overturning completely or setting the abortion limit at 15 weeks, which can be done by overturning Roe.

Americans want to be allowed to protect unborn babies from abortion again. Not just a few Americans, not just a “small, vocal” minority, but many, many people who believe babies in the womb are valuable human beings.

And that means Roe must go. Since the infamous abortion ruling, more than 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions. Now, the Supreme Court is considering a Mississippi abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, that could overturn Roe and allow states to protect babies from abortion again. A ruling is expected soon, potentially at the end of the month.
