Catholic Bishop Tells Joe Biden You Can’t be Catholic and Pro-Abortion

Arlington Catholic Bishop Michael Burbidge recently urged Joe Biden to repent of his pro-abortion position and stop supporting the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

Aleteia reports the Arlington, Virginia bishop discussed the president and U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, both of whom claim to be devout Catholics while supporting abortion, on his podcast “Walk Humbly” at the end of May.

“I find it very troubling that President Biden continues to contradict the most basic teachings of the faith he professes,” Burbidge said, adding that the president is causing “great scandal when he announces both his faith and his pro-abortion position publicly. I pray that he will change his position, repent of the scandal and the damage that is being caused.”

He urged the Catholic politician to go to church and be open to allowing God to speak to him.

“My prayer recently has been that, as busy as he is, as demanding as his job is, that the president and other elected officials would find time … to just go in church, just sit in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, be still, be quiet, and allow the voice of the Lord to speak to you,” Burbidge continued.

If Biden listens, he will be reminded that all God’s children deserve to be protected and loved, including children in the womb, the bishop said.

“We know what that voice will say to the president, to all of us: Protect my children, love me, respect one another, uphold the Gospel of Life,” Burbidge said. “And so, as we always say to Catholics, the churches of our doors are open to you to simply be in the presence of the Lord, the one alone who can transform hearts, the one alone in the Sacrament of Penance who is willing to forgive our sins, no matter how great they may be and allow us to begin anew.”

During the podcast, Burbidge also supported the decision by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone to deny communion to Pelosi until she repents, and promised to do the same in his diocese, according to the report. Pelosi professes to be Catholic but consistently defies church teachings about the sanctity of human life.

Both Pelosi and Biden support a radical pro-abortion bill that would legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth nation-wide even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, force Catholic hospitals and pro-life medical workers to participate in the killing of unborn babies and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.

Last fall, Cordileone said the legislation amounts to “child sacrifice” and chastised Catholic politicians who support it. He said the bill is what “one would expect from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic.”

But Pelosi laughed at the archbishop’s statement at a press conference in September, saying she and Cordileone “have a disagreement about who should decide this.”

According to Aleteia, at least 20 bishops have issued statements supporting Cordileone’s decision about Pelosi, including Archbishop Joseph Naumann, a former chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

Many U.S. bishops and priests have expressed concerns that pro-abortion Catholic politicians like Pelosi and Biden are “creating scandal” for the Catholic Church by encouraging evil. They have said the church must do something to make it clear that Catholics cannot support the killing of unborn babies in abortions and must repent before participating in communion.
