Nancy Pelosi Calls Killing Babies in Abortions “Freedom for Women”

Nancy Pelosi demanded that women be allowed the “freedom” to abort their unborn babies Friday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

Pelosi, joined by other pro-abortion Democrat lawmakers, denounced Republicans’ plans to protect unborn babies by banning abortions at the state and possibly the federal level if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade this summer, UPI reports.

She accused Republicans of wanting to “rip away the constitutional right to health freedom for American women.”

A leaked draft ruling last week suggests the Supreme Court does plan to overturn Roe, but the justices have not released their final ruling yet. The case is Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health.

Outraged by the possibility that abortion may no longer be legal nation-wide, Pelosi said Democrats need to codify Roe into federal law.

“As Republicans seek to control and criminalize women’s reproductive health freedoms, Democrats are fighting to enshrine Roe vs. Wade into law,” she said, warning that conservatives may attack other rights next.

But aborting an unborn baby is not a right at all, and it appears that the Supreme Court is ready to recognize that in its upcoming ruling on the Mississippi case. If the leaked draft ruling is similar to the final decision, the court would return the abortion issue to the states – meaning voter-elected state lawmakers would be allowed to pass laws to protect unborn babies’ right to life.

Pelosi supports the killing of unborn babies in abortions up to birth and wants to force taxpayers to pay for them. Once she referred to late-term abortions as “sacred ground.” Last fall, under her leadership, the U.S. House passed a radical pro-abortion bill that would legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth nation-wide and end bans on sex-selection abortions and partial-birth abortions, according to National Right to Life.

Democrat leaders hope the abortion issue will boost their low polling numbers ahead of the November election, but polls consistently show that most Americans support strong legal protections for unborn babies – more than what Roe allows. LifeNews highlighted 11 recent polls here. A new Rasmussen poll this week shows more Americans want Roe v. Wade overturned (48 percent) than want the ruling to remain in place (45 percent).

Since Roe v. Wade, about 63 million unborn babies and hundreds of mothers have died in supposedly “safe, legal” abortions. The 1973 ruling forces states to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions up to viability and allows states to legalize abortions up to birth. If the high court overturns Roethe Guttmacher Institute predicts as many as 26 states would ban abortions.
