Pro-abortion activists turned violent across the country Tuesday during protests responding to a leaked possible U.S. Supreme Court draft ruling that overturns Roe v. Wade.

Police officers were injured and buildings vandalized in Los Angeles and pro-life advocates were spat upon and shoved in Washington, D.C. The protests took place in response to a leaked draft ruling that would allow states to protect unborn babies from abortion again.

In Los Angeles, police said abortion activists threw rocks and bottles at police officers and one officer was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment, NBC Los Angeles reports.

Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Issac Ruiz told reporters the injured officer “was attacked by a group of agitators and struck in the head but he’s doing OK.”

On Wednesday morning, CBS News confirmed that a second police officer also was injured in the protest, and a Planet Fitness gym and the City Hall building were vandalized.

Pro-abortion protesters also smashed the window of a police vehicle, according to multiple reports.

Fox News reports Los Angeles police issued a tactical alert for the city Tuesday evening when the protest turned violent.

“We attempted to communicate, clear, and provide dispersal order to the group,” LAPD Chief Michel Moore said. However, “crowd began to throw rocks and bottles at officers.”

During another protest in Washington, D.C., a Daily Wire reporter witnessed abortion activists shoving, spitting on and screaming obscenities at a small group of pro-life advocates who were counter-protesting.

“[Tuesday] night at the Supreme Court, I witnessed the pro-life group @PAAUNOW get aggressively (if not violently) pushed/shoved out of a massive pro-abortion crowd, spat upon, thrown water on, screamed at. One pro-abortion protester jeered, ‘Where is your God now?’” reporter Mary Margaret Olohan wrote on Twitter.

She also posted several videos from the protest, including one of PAAU leader Terrisa Bukovinac being followed by abortion activists as her pro-life group left the protest.

Lauren Evans from the Daily Signal said there was a “palpable darkness” at the D.C. protest.

“I’ve been to a lot of protests and events around the capitol as part of various jobs I’ve had in D.C.” Evans wrote on Twitter. “The pro-abortion crowd last night was more hateful, angry, and on edge than anything I’ve ever seen. A colleague rightfully described it as ‘palpable darkness.’”

Along with the violence of abortion against unborn babies, threats and violence against pro-life advocates have increased in recent years. LifeNews.com has documented reports of hundreds of incidents in recent years, including bomb threats, assaults, death threats, arson and vandalism.

Violence by abortion activists likely will continue as the U.S. Supreme Court gets ready to issue its final ruling on the Mississippi abortion case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health this summer. If the court overturns Roe, the Guttmacher Institute predicts that 26 states would ban abortions.
