Police arrested a Nigerian man this week after he allegedly raped his daughter and then took her to an abortion facility to have her unborn baby aborted.
The Daily Post reports police in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, Nigeria, arrested Sunday Udoh, 38, after he was accused of raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter.
Police said Udoh took his daughter to an abortion facility Tuesday, but staff contacted police whey they learned that the man allegedly raped his daughter.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect was attempting to procure abortion for his daughter of about 15 years old whom he has been having sexual intercourse with,” police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami said in a statement.
It is not clear if the girl’s unborn baby was aborted.
Victims of sexual abuse often are forced or coerced into abortions by their abusers to cover up their crimes. Abortion facilities also have been caught failing to report suspected abuse to authorities on numerous occasions.

A 2014 study found that forced abortions are common among sex trafficking victims. In “The Health Consequences of Sex Trafficking and Their Implications for Identifying Victims in Healthcare Facilities,” researchers found that 55 percent of sex trafficking victims had at least one abortion, with more than half saying they were forced to abort one or more unborn babies.
Studies also have found high rates of violent abuse among women seeking abortions and pregnant women. Often, abuse also is connected to a mother’s refusal to abort her unborn child.
