Horrified by the discovery of five late-term aborted babies who may have been born alive or killed in illegal partial-birth abortions, U.S. Congressman Chip Roy joined growing calls this week for the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate.
In an interview with The Daily Wire, however, the Texas Republican expressed frustration and doubt that there will be any justice for the babies while Democrats remain in power.
“May God have mercy on this nation,” Roy told The Daily Wire. “These children’s voices were silenced before they could speak, but their memory cries out for justice. The DOJ should investigate this immediately, and when Republicans take back Congress, we must reassert Congress’s constitutional power over Washington D.C. to protect human life.”
Police in Washington, D.C. said they do not plan to conduct autopsies on the five babies whose bodies pro-life advocates said they received in March outside the Washington Surgi Center. The facility advertises abortions at “27 plus weeks of pregnancy,” which is long past the point when babies are viable outside the womb.
“These children were murdered by abortion,” Roy told the news outlet. “Some of them, it appears, were killed outside the already too-permissive bounds of the law. Unfortunately, we know that nothing will be done.”

He said abortions are legal for any reason up to birth in Washington, D.C., and city government leaders are pro-abortion. Earlier this week, more than two dozen Republican lawmakers urged the Department of Justice to investigate; however, pro-abortion Democrat officials with the Biden administration also lead that agency.
Roy said looking at the photos of the babies left him feeling “horrified and disgusted,” and Americans need to be aware of what abortions do to innocent children.
“That disgust has only grown with the new images of more than 100 other children — all at various stages of development, none of whom were given even a chance,” Roy said.
“Make no mistake, the images are disturbing and chilling to the soul – to who we are as human beings, but we should not look away,” he continued in the interview with The Daily Wire. “They reveal the uncomfortable truth of abortion. These are human beings — our fellow Americans.”
At a press conference earlier this week, pro-life advocates with the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) said they found the bodies of 110 first-trimester aborted babies and five late-term aborted babies in two boxes that they received from a truck driver who was collecting medical waste from the abortion facility.
PAAU leader Lauren Handy said the five babies appeared to be “so advanced in their gestational age and the patterns in their wounds suggest violent federal crimes.”
Live Action News and others published disturbing photos of the five babies, some with injuries suggesting they may have been killed in illegal partial-birth abortions or even born alive in botched abortions. Previous undercover investigations by Live Action of Washington Surgi Center abortionist Cesare Santangelo found evidence that late-term aborted babies may be being born alive and left to die at his facility.
The aborted babies’ bodies are in the custody of Washington, D.C. police. Pro-life leaders are calling for a thorough investigation and autopsy of the babies to determine if any were born alive or killed via the illegal partial-birth abortion method.
According to the Daily Wire, city authorities, including the Metropolitan Police Department, D.C. Medical Examiner and Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office, have refused to comment on the matter.
Pro-life leaders named the babies Ángel, Holly, Phoenix, Harriet and Christopher X. They said they also named the 110 first-trimester babies and gave them a funeral Mass and burial.
“We cannot build a better world on a pile of murdered children,” PAAU founder Terrisa Bukovinac said. “That’s not progress. Real progress is protecting the vulnerable from exploitation from people like Santangelo who are the true villains here. True progressives must stand up against this injustice.”
