Republicans Condemn Biden’s Abortion Agenda: We Must “Protect Innocent Children”

More than 50 House Republicans asked the Biden administration for answers this month about a new task force established to promote the killing of unborn babies in abortions world-wide.

In a letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, of Georgia, condemned the task force as a “direct assault” on states’ rights and unborn babies’ lives.

“I sent a letter to Secretary Becerra raising concern that his pro-abortion task force endangers unborn lives,” Carter said Tuesday. “This task force is a direct assault on states’ work to protect innocent children and must be stopped. Thank you to the 53 House Republicans who signed this letter.”

Becerra, a radical pro-abortion Democrat who worked to put pro-life journalists in jail when he was California attorney general, unveiled the new “Task Force on Reproductive Healthcare Access” in January. The task force claims “abortion access” is essential health care, and its goals include eliminating “barriers” to abortion across the U.S. and the world.

In their letter Thursday, Republican lawmakers asked Becerra for answers about the new project, including who will be on the task force and whether taxpayers’ money will be used to undermine states’ and other countries’ authority to pass pro-life laws.

“We adamantly disagree with your premise – abortion is not health care. Abortion robs a person of health and life itself,” Carter and 52 lawmakers told Becerra.

They also chastised the Biden administration for giving $1.4 million taxpayer dollars to Texas abortion businesses in response to the life-saving state heartbeat law, instead of supporting women and babies in need.

“The taxpayer dollars that fund HHS should be focused on promoting the highest quality of health information and care to all individuals, both born and unborn,” the lawmakers continued. “They should not be used to promote a pro-abortion agenda in a shameless attempt to override the pro-life legislation that is being promoted in the states and defended in countries around the world.”

They cited a recent Marist poll that found 73 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortions in other countries and 54 percent in the U.S.

The Republican lawmakers also asked Becerra if HHS will “commit to following and enforcing all federal laws in the operation of this task force.” During his confirmation hearing, Becerra lied about the partial-birth abortion ban by denying that there is any such law. Even left-leaning fact checkers called out the HHS secretary for lying.

The Susan B. Anthony List praised pro-life lawmakers for questioning Becerra about the law and basic human rights.

“Thank you @RepBuddyCarter for leading 53 of your colleagues in an open letter to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, reminding him: Abortion is not health care,” the pro-life organization responded on Twitter. “Women deserve better than abortion. They deserve the support they need to care for their babies and themselves.”

Previously, Valerie Huber, the former U.S. special representative for global women’s health at HHS during the Trump administration, condemned the new pro-abortion task force.

She told the National Catholic Register that HHS is “looking for every administrative lever they can to promote abortion through programs through policies, regulations, and any other kind of creative, and I would say harmful, interpretations of long-standing federal law and definitions for health and primary care that they are reinterpreting for the purpose of derailing real women’s health gains for abortion.”

In January, Biden released a statement celebrating Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that resulted in killing 63.5 million unborn babies abortions. The decision, handed down on Jan. 22, 1973, overturned pro-life laws offering protection for unborn children all across the country and made abortions legal and virtually unlimited.

Biden falsely claimed there is a right to abortion in the Constitution even though no such right exists. His celebration of abortion is not surprising given that he has governed as the most pro-abortion president in history.
