President Donald Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis are the two potential presidential candidates most Republicans would like to see represent the GOP in 2024. The two pro-life advocates finished first and second in the star poll conducted at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

The poll, conducted from Thursday to Sunday with 2,564 attendees, shows 59% support Trump while 28% of conservatives favor DeSantis.

Some 87% of the thousands of conservatives at CPAC picked one of the two as the person they would most likely want to see as the 2024 nominee. Several other possible presidential candidates split the rest with only pro-life former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo getting more than 1%.

Rand Paul, Kristi Noem, Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, Mike Pence, Glenn Youngkin and Tim Scott all picked up at least 1 percent of the straw poll vote.

Trump still has a very high approval rating among Republican attendees, with 97% saying they approve of the job he did as president.

The eventual Republican nominee is expected to take on pro-abortion Joe Biden, assuming he runs for re-election.
