Every so often, my Facebook feed delivers a story which warms my heart and renews my faith in humanity.
Today was such a day.
The post that filled me with joy came courtesy of Dr. Monique Ruberu, a Philadelphia-area physician who is in the business of saving lives.
In her posting, Dr. Ruberu noted that, nine months ago, a frightened young woman went into a notorious abortion facility and took the first of two abortion pills that had been recommended to her to end her child’s life.
As Dr. Ruberu wrote, “She later regretted this choice and called the abortion center to find out if anything could be done…They told her to go to the ER…the ER had no help for her…”
While she was waiting in the emergency room, she desperately searched the Internet and came across a woman named Marlene Downing, then the director of the Hope Pregnancy Center in Philly.
Marlene took the girl’s frantic call and then called Dr. Ruberu. The good doctor writes, “At 10 o’clock at night I told that girl to meet me at my office…The minute I laid eyes on her I knew I had nothing to worry about…this sweet mama was nothing but love.”
Dr. Ruberu gave the young woman a progesterone shot and arranged for a follow-up. “Soon after I met her to do an ultrasound and make sure the sweet baby was still alive—and she was. We went for lunch to celebrate that day…

“And last night she delivered the most beautiful baby girl who was being watched in the (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) after the delivery—but is doing well.”
Dr. Ruberu goes on to write, “Please thank God today for this miracle of life! Please thank God for Marlene’s willingness to live her life according to God’s will…please thank God for Abortion Pill Reversal.
“I was looking for something joyful on the one-month anniversary of my Dad’s entrance to heaven…God is so good for lining this birth up perfectly.”
Dr. Ruberu’s account demonstrates how pregnancy center staffs and doctors can team up to empower pregnant women and to save their babies. I hope this story leaves you with a smile.
