After Joe Biden delivers his State of the Union Address next Tuesday, Republicans have selected a pro-life governor to deliver the Republican response.

Republican congressional leadership has tapped Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, who is solidly pro-life, to respond to Biden, who has compiled the most radical pro-abortion record of any president since Roe v. Wade. Reynolds will deliver the national response to Biden’s first State of the Union address on March 1.

“The Biden administration is governing from the far left, ignoring the problems of working-class Americans while pushing an agenda that stifles free speech, free thought, and economic freedom,” she said in a statement today after the selection became public. “The American people have had enough, but there is an alternative and that’s what I look forward to sharing on Tuesday evening.”

Reynolds is the first woman governor of Iowa and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, made the decision to select her to give the official address.

“She fought COVID without forgetting common sense and protected Iowans’ health and their rights at the same time,” said McConnell. “She’s defended kids and parents with laws that have kept students in classrooms and woke propaganda out.”

“Americans are in disbelief when they see how incompetent our government has become in one year, under one-party rule,” said McCarthy. “But for many, disastrous decision-making in Washington has been offset by real leadership in states across the country. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds represents what it means to lead with conviction and true faith in our fellow citizens.”

In December, Reynolds said the Supreme Court should overturn Roe v. Wade, which allowed abortion on demand.:

When it comes to the unborn, the science is not in dispute: the child in the womb is a human being. The only open question is whether these unique individuals are entitled to the right to life. My own record as Governor leaves no doubt as to how I, and the people who elected me, answer that question.

Within a year of my inauguration, I signed one of the nation’s first bills designed to ban abortionists’ deadly work after a heartbeat can be detected. We also passed a common-sense law requiring a 72-hour waiting period before obtaining an abortion. In 2020, I called on the Legislature to pass an amendment to the State Constitution clarifying that it does not contain a right to abortion, which it did earlier this year.

By disregarding state sovereignty, Roe and Casey have destroyed millions of unborn children. Today, the Court will hear oral arguments in Dobbs, its best opportunity yet to undo its fatal mistake.
