For many many years, the 40 Days for Life national pro-life prayer campaign has been saving babies from abortion. As Americans — and now pro-life people from nations across the globe, pray outside abortion centers they actively provide help and support for pregnant women contemplating abortion.
That direct support and assistance paid dividends this year as pro-life campaigners helped save 2,260 babies from abortion — meaning thousands of moms received the help they needed to have their baby and overcome potential hurdles that led them to consider abortion in the first place.
As Sean Carney, the 40 Days for Life director, says, that figure is twice as many babies saved from abortion as in any prior year.
“As we close out a record-setting 2021, I have some exciting news. Your prayers saved more than TWICE the number of babies (that we know of) this year compared with 2020,” Carney explained.
“The two largest 40 Days for Life campaigns ever and the launch of 40 Days for Life 365 resulted in 2,260 confirmed lives saved from abortion!”
But that’s not the only good news. The prayer campaign also resulted in connections with abortion center employees — helping them out of their jobs in the abortion industry and helping to close abortion businesses.
“Your prayers this year also converted 18 abortion workers and helped close 7 more abortion facilities,” Carney said.
Here are some of the stories from this year’s 40 Days for Life:
Vigil participants in Denver met a woman coming to Planned Parenthood for an abortion because her child’s father was unemployed.
But Denver campaign leader Maria Elisa said the offer of support from on-site prayer warriors changed their minds, and they chose life!
“We are looking forward to helping them find a job,” said Maria Elisa. “They left with a hopeful heart that they are not alone–and they are right because our Lord and we are here for them.”
A dramatic scene unfolded before 40 Days for Life participants in Hollywood, Florida. A half hour after an Uber brought a couple to their abortion appointment, the woman’s mother showed up.
“I’m here to stop my daughter from doing this,” she said.
As the woman went inside to try to save her grandchild, vigil participants stepped up their prayers.
While prayer warriors implored God to save the child, the abortion-bound woman, her boyfriend, and her mother repeatedly entered the abortion facility. They exited the abortion facility. They paced. They went back into the abortion facility.
“We were witnessing a battle between Heaven and hell,” said Nancy, the Hollywood leader.
When the 40 Days for Life team in Chia learned of an expectant mother planning to have an abortion at the local hospital, they rushed into action.
First, they connected the woman with a pro-life foundation offering support for mothers in crisis. Together, the foundation and the 40 Days for Life team worked through a hospital employee to offer support to the young mom.
Just 90 minutes later, they learned the woman chose life thanks to their efforts.
“Thank God for the fruits of the campaigns!” said 40 Days for Life Latin American Affairs Coordinator Lourdes Varela. “Let’s keep praying for her and her baby!”
