New Mexico Gov. Michelle Grisham marked the Advent of Christ’s birth Tuesday by celebrating her work to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions in her state.

Grisham, who professes to be Catholic, has been counting the 12 days leading up to Christmas with social media posts about her political achievements.

On Tuesday, the second day of her “12 Days of Delivering for New Mexicans” campaign, she celebrated how New Mexico repealed its 1969 abortion ban earlier this year. As a result, aborting unborn babies through all nine months of pregnancy will remain legal there even if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

“Standing up for women’s rights has never been more important. I am proud that under my leadership, New Mexico was one of the few states to advance access to reproductive health care and abortion in 2021,” the Democrat governor wrote.

Her post quickly sparked outrage from pro-life leaders and commenters online.

Elisa Martinez, executive director of the New Mexico Alliance for Life, called out the governor’s hypocrisy for using the birth of a child to celebrate legalizing the killing of other unborn babies in abortions up to birth.

“It’s sad that Governor Grisham chose to conflate her abortion up-to-birth radicalism as ‘standing up for women,’ when she ignores women who are injured during unsafe and unregulated abortions in New Mexico,” Martinez said. “It’s especially sad she’s using the ’12 Days of Christmas,’ which commemorates the birth of Christ, to celebrate full-term abortions.”

Martinez remembered the late Keisha Atkins, 23, who died shortly after her unborn baby did in an abortion in 2017 at Southwestern Women’s Options in Albuquerque. Atkins’ mother, Tina, and sister, Nicole, are suing the abortion facility for negligence.

There also are reports of doctors leaving the state, as medical leaders and pro-life advocates had warned would happen after Grisham and the Democrat-controlled state legislature repealed the state’s only conscience protections for pro-life medical workers earlier this year.

Though Grisham claims to be fighting for women, Martinez said she really is promoting unsafe abortions that harm and kill women and babies.

In response to the governor, she said New Mexico Alliance for Life is “stepping up to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Christ” with its own 12 Days of Christmas Gift Drive. The organization is collecting winter clothing, toys and educational supplies to provide to families in need. Donations also may be made through MissionABQ.org.
