It’s a good rule of thumb for those of us dedicated to restoring the right to life to the unborn that we oppose anything Planned Parenthood supports.
Our abortion-advocate-in-chief’s nearly $2 trillion – TRILLION – Build Back Better plan is a perfect example.
The spending plan is stuffed full of cash for causes progressives embrace – most notably, climate change – but it also contains items of particular interest to the nation’s abortion sellers. When the plan’s backers tout its provisions to “close the Medicaid spending gap,” what it really means, according to Planned Parenthood, is that 800,000 women of reproductive age will gain access to taxpayer-funded abortion.
Planned Parenthood calls Build Back Better “welcome news for people in this country who struggle to access sexual and reproductive health care.” We all know that means abortion.
The plan makes no mention of the Hyde Amendment, which since 1976 has prevented American taxpayers from having to pay for most abortions. The National Right to Life Committee notes that H.R. 5766, the Build Back Better reconciliation plan, “contains numerous provisions to fund elective abortion in violation of the longstanding principles of the [longstanding, bi-partisan] Hyde Amendment.”
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which finds much to like in the social justice parts of the spending plan, also points out that the act in total is “completely unacceptable” in the way it expands taxpayer-funded abortion.

“We have been consistent in our position and reiterate that it would be a calamity if the important and life-affirming provisions in this bill were accompanied by provisions facilitating and funding the destruction of unborn human life,” the chairmen of six USCCB committees wrote in a letter last month.
The House has already passed this boondoggle and Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to get it passed by the Senate by Christmas.
I’m counting on you to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Schumer needs every Democrat in the Senate to vote for this bill. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin is still waffling about the plan but we can’t let the fate of the unborn rest in the hands of just one man.
I’m hoping you will spend a few minutes calling your U.S. senators – Republican and Democrat – to tell them you expect them to vote against this terrible bill. I’m confident Republicans will stand firm in opposition – but they need to hear you are with them.
And as for the Democrats, tell them that they work for you, not for the Democrat Party leaders, and that you expect them safeguard American taxpayers, even if it means breaking with party leadership. The American people have said again and again that they do not want to pay for abortion.
Please act today.
