Colton Dixon cannot help but think of his young twin daughters when he realizes how many unborn babies are aborted every day in America.

An American Idol finalist and popular Christian singer, Dixon and his wife celebrated the birth of their first children, identical twin daughters, a little over a year ago. He recently spoke about his pro-life views with Live Action, including the heartbreak he feels when he thinks of the 2,363 children who are killed every day in abortions in the U.S.

“That’s insane, it’s just insane,” Dixon said, reflecting on the number. “And it breaks my heart, especially after having twin girls and thinking they could be amongst that number. It’s just heartbreaking.”

He said people need to get back to putting others first if society wants to end abortions.

“Put other people before yourself,” Dixon told Live Action. “I think it boils down to thinking of people other than yourself. That’s anything in life, you put other people before you, you’re going to live a happier life.”

Along with that come respect and communication, he continued. Asked how people can lovingly communicate the pro-life message to others who do not agree, Dixon acknowledged that it is difficult.

“We live in an age right now where if your opinion isn’t my opinion there are walls up, and no one wants to listen to each other and that’s not just on the pro-life issue,” he said. “We have to get back to communicate and have conversations with people regardless of what the topic is.”

Love needs to be at the center of those conversations, Dixon told Live Action.

“I think love should be a part of that conversation and respect that even if my view isn’t your view and vice versa we can still have a civil conversation,” he said.

Earlier this year, Dixon joined Live Action for a special event to kick off its #2363 Campaign. The pro-life organization said the goal is to raise awareness that abortion is the leading cause of death for children and to bring the national tragedy to an end.

The number 2,363 is the average number of unborn babies who are aborted every single day in the United States. It is based on the 862,320 abortions reported in the U.S. in 2017 by the Guttmacher Institute.

Through print, radio, digital, TV ads and out-of-home marketing, Live Action hopes to educate millions of Americans about the mass tragedy of abortion and the need to project the lives of children in the womb.
