Homicide is the Number One Cause of Death for Pregnant Women, Including Many Women Who Refuse Abortions

Disturbing new data from a national study found that, for pregnant mothers, the number one cause of death is homicide.

According to Hot Air, the research found that homicide, frequently committed by a husband or partner, took more pregnant mothers’ lives than any other cause. The report did not mention how many unborn babies were killed along with their mothers.

Researchers looked at death certificates, homicide reports and other data on pregnancy-related deaths across the country, according to the report. The journal “Obstetrics & Gynecology” recently published the study by researchers at Tulane University.

Here’s more from the report:

Pregnant women died by homicide at a rate more than twice that of those who died from bleeding or placental disorders. (Those are the causes most frequently described as being “pregnancy-related deaths.”)

Age is also a factor. Pregnant females between the ages of 10 and 44 were found to be 16% more likely to be murdered than their non-pregnant peers.

The study also found that, among African American women of childbearing age, the homicide rate is three times higher among pregnant women compared to non-pregnant women.

Though the report did not mention it, these crimes often destroy the lives of the mothers’ unborn babies as well, and a mother’s refusal to have an abortion frequently is a factor.

Many women face pressure to abort their unborn babies, sometimes from employers and others from partners or parents. Frequently, this coercion is coupled with abuse.

A 2014 study, “Associations Between Intimate Partner Violence and Termination of Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” published in the journal “PLOS Medicine,” found that intimate partner violence, including history of rape, sexual assault, contraception sabotage and coerced decision-making, was associated with abortion.

Another study by the Elliot Institute found a high rate of coerced and forced abortions among post-abortive women, as high as 64 percent.
