Joe Biden is So Bad, Americans Want Republicans to Take Back Congress

Remembering the adage that a year is a lifetime in politics, nonetheless the magnitude of President Biden’s job approval fall is striking. It is underwater at 38% approval versus 57% disapproval with his “strongly approve” number  just 19% and 48% “strongly disapprove,” according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll.

The Post (an unabashed Democrat newspaper) pulled no punches:

Overall, the survey offers a set of harsh judgments about the president’s performance and the state of the economy. Together, they send a stark warning to Democrats about their prospects in the 2022 midterm contests.

John Nolte wrote that Biden’s numbers have fallen dramatically among Independents—and to an extent even Democrats.

Biden’s approval rating is only 35 percent among Independents, while his disapproval rating sits at 58 percent.

Even among Democrats, Biden’s nowhere near where an incumbent president should be, which is in the 90 percent range. Currently, only 80 percent of Democrats approve the job Biden’s doing. Worse still, only 44 percent strongly approve.

Or, as Gary Langer of ABC News wrote, “Biden’s overall approval rating sets or matches career lows among nearly all demographic groups, with positive assessments among most down significantly from their peaks in the spring or summer. The exception is those who already were highly critical of the president, such as Republicans, conservatives and rural residents.”

Adding an additional layer of thick gloom for Democrats is that the Washington Post/ABC News poll found that 51% of registered voters said if the election were held now they would vote for the Republican candidate and 41% said the Democratic candidate—the so-called generic ballot.

“For people who follow the generic ballot, that’s a stunning number,” Byron York wrote this morning. “Usually Democrats lead Republicans on the question. In fact, the GOP has never had a number as high as 51% in decades of Washington Post polling.”

But what further raised eyebrows—and anxiety for the Democrat party– is that the approval numbers for President Biden were dramatically worse in states with competitive Senate races in 2022.

“Evaluating survey results in just eight states expected to have the most competitive Senate races — four currently held by Democrats, four by Republicans — raises further hope for the GOP and risk for the Democratic Party,”  wrote Langer. “In these states — Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — Biden’s overall job approval rating is 33%…”

Demonstrating that this poll was not an outlier, “Currently, in the RealClearPolitics poll of polls, Biden’s job approval average has hit a record low of just 42 percent. His average disapproval rating has also hit a new record, a high of 52.7 percent.”
